It's been two months when all the adults and teens of Shinjuku disappeared. The winter of late November continued to rage without any sign of abating. On that day when people older than fourteen vanished, creatures known as Digimon have taken over the isolated city, closed off by a mysterious barrier from the rest of the world. Forced to rely on the Digimon to run the city, the remaining children submit themselves to the slavery. Those that show disloyalty are imprisoned and those that fight back are publicly executed.
Those capable of fighting back are the only ones the Digimon fear. They have been hiding among the ordinary children, trying to find each other to rise as an army against the Digimon. Surviving the winter and staying out of the Digimon's radar is hard enough but there are also spies and traitors among the civilians. The Digimon have high bounties on these so-called Chosen Children, children who were chosen by a digivice that allows them to absorb fractal data and to turn into a Digimon.
Notes
So this is a Digimon RP but unlike what you all are most familiar with, you turn into a Digimon instead of having a Digimon partner. I decided on this to be able to focus more on the plot and the characters since NPC Digimon can be a handful in considering to the cast. This also makes the idea that you're basically turning into the enemy to defeat the enemy. In this AU, Digimon have never existed. So far, the children do know that they're made of data and all that's why they're able to run the city. Because of this, Digimon are generally feared no matter how cute they look.
The Digimon are also militaristic. No "civilian" Digimon or anything, though there are non-combatants like doctors, chefs, etc. Not all of them are jerks.
Administration
The Digimon and Shinjuku is ruled by Megidramon, the evil, pyromaniac tyrant. Though his affinity is fire, the winter does nothing to lower his body temperature one bit. Megidramon is ruthless even to his own subjects. He shows no interest in ruling at all and thinks of Shinjuku as a way to pass time, occasionally showing annoyance over having to babysit for someone.
Serving Megidramon are his generals, three of the Olympus Twelve: Jupitermon, an eccentric, gullible though very powerful Digimon; Minervamon, a genius with a short-temper and a belligerent attitude who often bickers with Marsmon, a deceitful brawler who shares Megidramon's ruthlessness and enjoys a good fight. As such, Marsmon doesn't fear the CC and looks forward to fighting them. Both Jupitermon and Minervamon show a sense of obligation to their cause but Marsmon will play his cards the way he wants to if it means being able to fight stronger Digimon.
Under the generals are some captain Digimon that are not all relevant to identify. Since humans are pretty powerless, they're not really doing anything. Most of the time, they assign humans to watch over other humans by "promoting" them to sentinels. These humans are granted benefits for their extreme dedication and loyalty to the Digimon. The sentinels are extremely handy in hunting down the CC since they're most familiar with human culture. More often times they're responsible for a CC's demise.
Chosen Children
Chosen Children have been around since the beginning of the incident and I imagine that one or two of them have already died. Not all of them might have died a heroic death for us to know. But when a Chosen Children dies, they're able to pass their digivice on to someone else. If they're unable to, it usually goes automatically to the one who deserves it.
Digivice
The digivice is a mysterious weapon that allows its Chosen Child to turn into a Digimon. Each digivice corresponds to a specific, unique element: fire, wind, ice, lightning, light, darkness, steel, wood, water, and earth, and since this is obviously based on Digimon Frontier, we're going with the design of the divice there.
A digivice can also absorb fractal codes. So far, none of the children are aware of what it does exactly as it doesn't really make them stronger, but they could use it to "kill" a Digimon. Digimon normally disintegrate into data but they're able to come back after a while. By absorbing their fractal data, they die permanently.
Spirit Evolution
IC-wise, they don't know what to call turning to a Digimon is xD but in Frontier, it's called Spirit Evolution. There are 3 types of spirit evolution, each stronger than before. It starts with the champion/adult form, then to the ultimate/perfect form, and then to the mega/ultimate form. So it's like:
Adult -> Greymon Perfect -> MetalGreymon Ultimate -> WarGreymon
The kind of Digimon a CC can spirit evolve to depends on the CC's digivice attribute.
Fire = Dragon Digimon Light = Beast Digimon Thunder = Insect Digimon Wind = Bird Man and Fairy Digimon Ice = Mammal and Icy Snow Digimon Darkness = Mythical Beast and Demon Beast Digimon Earth = Ore and Mineral Digimon Wood = Plant Digimon Water = Aquatic Digimon Steel = Mutant Digimon
We're all going to start out with just adult forms, not knowing we can even go stronger. There are a lot our characters don't know; it depends on the circumstances around your character. For example, if your character succeeded a Chosen Child and the CC happens to have had a Perfect form, then of course your character will know. Just let us know in advance what they may know. I'll also inform anyone of additional info if I think their character should know it.
On that note, feel free to create events and explore the setting given that it's not too prominent. Just give us a head's up and all that.
Sign-ups
Interested? Just post here and say which digivice attribute you would prefer then we'll see if the rest would be filled up. We're after a diverse cast of characters so don't take offense if changes would be asked of you. But we'll deal with character applications later. Preliminary discussion and brainstorming first. Wouldn't be good to start right off the bat if people have questions first.

Chosen Children Preliminary Roster Fire by gojiraLight by KatyaThunder by Gipsy DanceWind by nameIce by nachtmareDarkness by none (locked) Earth by JINWood by momentaiWater by TanzSteel by name------------------ Since we've already filled more than half of the slots (with me not having decided on an element yet lol), we can start doing character apps. I've put a sample of my potential char. You can get the code at the bottom of the post. Just post your apps here. If you want to make your own character profile thread, go ahead, but you still have to post it here with this format. Name: Itoh Renjiro Age: 13 Nationality:Japanese
Personality: Renjiro is impassive and emotionally-flat. He’s socially awkward though Renjiro doesn’t think of himself as timid or unexpressive. He has a hard time coming up with something interesting to say because he considers his life to be incredibly mundane, and Renjiro doesn’t want to “bug” others to care about it when he hardly cares about it himself. He’s very meek and submissive even when constantly bullied and made fun of but if there’s anything Renjiro believes himself to be good at, it’s ignoring the bad things. He seems very dependent and unreliable at first since he prefers to listen and follow others around but when left alone to take care of things, Renjiro shows that he’s capable of taking care of himself. Renjiro has little faith in his abilities but he acts confident exactly because he knows what his limitations are.
History: Renjiro is a single child from a well-to-do family. His parents are both kindergarten teachers and have earned most of their wealth from winning several lotteries, which made them a millionaire last year. His family is very relaxed and superstitious. Renjiro was told that good things were decided by luck, condensed in a giant pot that is equally shared among people. When luck isn’t coming, it means they’re way behind the line waiting for their turn. Until then, they should persevere and do their best to get their share of luck again. Renjiro knew this wasn’t entirely true but he believed it was his parents’ philosophy that taught him how to survive bullying in school.
Renjio is encouraged to do whatever he wants but besides building card structures, he doesn’t have any hobbies or interests. He was told to go around shops and buy something new to play with. Renjiro was checking around the stores in Shinjuku when the incident happened.
Renjiro was able to live in a cousin’s apartment though it became apparent that housing could be changed “without a prior notice.” He’s still trying to find out what could interest him as he doesn’t want to disappoint his parents on coming home empty-handed after two months (yes, that’s his main concern.) (THEN SOMETHING HAPPENED and he got the digivice. This is still a WIP okay but here’s your sample.)

Would prefer not to have more than two 9-year-old char. 10-12 is the average age. Nationality: If not Japanese, would prefer to limit non-Japanese citizen to 1 or 2. Don't force it if it's not relevant.
Personality: Here you want to describe to your friend how X Person is like. No more than one paragraph.
History: Things about family, hometown, school, friends...life. Write up until the current timeline. Be brief. No more than 2 and a half paragraphs.

Picture: A link to what your character looks like. Would prefer non-anime hair color (blue is fine though) unless it's intentionally dyed. Doesn't matter if it's not a Japanese hair color they're still pure Japanese unless otherwise noted so.

Count me in. First choice Light, but I'm okay with Wind or--quite frankly--anything. I'm flexible. Tentative character concept is a geeky hacker girl, sorta thinking Kagamine Rin for the FC, so if anyone wants to bring Len as a twin, I guess I'm game for sibling plots. Her personality probably depends on what would compliment the group best. Default is arrogant and mean though, the embodiment of all the anonymous ragers and elitist you meet on the internet.
For spirit evolutions, do we get to choose our own? Are they chosen for us? I'm assuming that we're not sticking to the canon spirit evolutions only because afaik there ain't enough of them to go around, is that right? I want Lunamon okay. But srsly, I don't actually care.
Alternative character concept: Bringing back Ender Aslan. For those of you that didn't rp with me on PRE, Ender is basically attack of the emo maladjusted preteen boy that's learned how to fight but hasn't learned how to smile.
ETA: editing profile into my first post in the thread
Name: Sakagami Hideo Age: 11 Nationality: Japanese Personality: He has an intrusive arrogance, bloodthirsty wit, nerves of steel, and the martial training to back up his sour attitude. Prickly, proud, and independent, Hideo is out for himself, or so he claims. A prodigal talent for coercion and violence, Hideo made his family proud, but for all his efforts he only feels lost and alone. He wants to be kind--his heart bleeds too much--but he's been told that emotions are weakness, so he plays at being made of blade steel, cold and unyielding. He wears the guise of future yakuza bigwig like second skin: callous, competent, and dangerous. It's not who he is and far from who he wants to be, but the mask is comforting like a toddler's security blanket. History: Orphaned at a young age, Sakagami HIdeo was adopted into a particularly vicious yakuza group in Tokyo with an unsavory specialty in human trafficking and prostitution. At first, Hideo was only another thug--a very small, very quiet assassin--but then he proved his worth time and time again. To their enemies, the boy was downright psychopathic; to his brothers, he was loyal and enduring. Hideo calls Sakagami Masatora father, not because the man is oyabun but because he was genuinely adopted as a son and raised as his heir. He is the first and favored son, and he will be forever grateful for that. By the time he could lift a sword, it became obvious that Hideo's good at one thing and one thing only: picking fights and winning fights. For years, he didn't mind violence, not when it won him approval and acceptance from the people he admired most. It's only recently that he's had nightmares, echoes of street brawls or stealthier murders. He took to spending time in their brothels, volunteering as bouncer, bookkeeper, receptionist, or whatever else to avoid other duties that he knew would lead to violence. Everyone just assumed Hideo had started noticing girls, and he was happy to let that assumption lie. Hideo received his digivice as soon as the digimon arrived. In his first effort in his life to do good, he led a group of children, most of them girls from the brothels, in an uprising against the digimon invaders. Hideo survived only because he evolved--too late to save anyone else. He's gone into hiding since, but he can't hide from the guilt, nor can he hide from his own nightmares. Yeah, you can choose your own. The Digimon the digivice turns you in vary even between its chosen children. There's no specific Digimon that a digivice has, just a specific attribute. Saying this for characters who happen to be succeeding the digivice from a previous CC. You can have a different Digimon or the same. Whichever you prefer.
You can have Lunamon xD I think she corresponds with Beast Digimon? And since that's Light, I'm going to write you on that att for now. Ender would probably fit the affinity best..........Ender turning into a waltzing rabbit???

You already know the one I want. Gimme Ice. I'm going with a male character. Not so sure about anything more than that. Kinda thinking of someone who's related to one of the first chosen children.

Done. If you're making someone like that, you're free to make up the character concept of that chosen child btw.

i want a cyberdramon, where does that put me? fire, since there's a dramon thing going on? eta: might be steel. justimon's kind of a mutant. i'll leave it to your call. strikedramon has a fire attack, too, so i can be either fire or steel. Name: "Rekka" Age: Ten Nationality: Japanese Personality: Naturally a person with a low presence. He rarely is noticed in a crowd, even though he might be doing something really flashy. His innate ability to slip under the radar is accentuated by his tendency to fall silent in public situations. He holds himself at a distance from his peers, preferring to keep to himself. Despite his ability to analyze situations and take charge, he puts on a front of clumsiness to avoid these kind of responsibilities. He prefers decisions being made for him and subsequently just following orders instead of having to make them himself. He dislikes loud and brash personalities and feels that it disrupts his thinking process; it is these moments where he feels that his boundaries of patience are being tested. Like his brother, it takes him quite a while before he erupts in a violent, angry outburst. History: One of two sons to a family running a shipping and logistics company, Rekka was raised by both his mother and grandmother alongside his brother. He kept to himself as a child and was rarely the type to lash out in anger or irritation. He avoided getting involved in trouble and was overall an obedient and quiet child that a parent would deem 'easy to raise.' He was enrolled in a private academy and mingled often with high society; his parents would bring the siblings to rich functions and parties to allow them to socialize. Rekka is on good terms with everyone in his class and a few of his seniors. Despite this, he prefers to remain acquaintances rather than friends. He, however, looks up greatly to his assigned mentor in the academy. His mentor, however, had transferred schools shortly before the incident occured. Rekka does not know whether he is still alive, but has yet to voice the concern in his heart. The past two months were trying times for the siblings. They had resorted to cunning and thievery in order to survive and to above all, stay away from being detected by other digimon. The fact that the both of them had digivices was a dangerous one; his brother had received his from a previous chosen child, while he had obtained his from an unknown source. After witnessing a public execution of a chosen child, it was obvious that the days ahead would be long and testing trials in survival. The entertainment value of Ender turning into a waltzing rabbit is pretty priceless, but yeah, I think the vibe you want for this is pretty serious? In which case, if I end up going with him instead, I'll just find a different digimon (and I'd be willing to cede the Light spot to anyone else that's dying for it, although I agree that Ender is better suited for that digivice).
I think so far gender-wise, I should stick with a girl though, for balance's sake.

gojira: Steel seems closer since Cyberdramon/Justimon don't seem to be the fire-breathing type. Added you there. Took a look at Strikedramon. Definitely fire XD And hmm, I don't think I'm after something that serious. I mean, yeah there would be deaths, fighting, and all that but still with the Digimon anime feel in it? At most it's a Digimon Tamers level of maturity so you can keep Ender turning into a waltzing rabbit if you really want to. I would like to see it happen in fact. I imagined the bad guys not to be above the evil scale of the Digimon villains from the first four seasons. Jupitermon in particular would be a pretty derpy "villain" who I'm excited to introduce. You don't have to pick a girl to balance the gender ratio. Girls smell anyway.

So my guy already's got a line. seadramon - > megaseadramon -> metal seadramon The original chosen child he got his digivice ended up dying, and his personality is pending. Got a better idea of him though. /just posting up progress. And digimon's generally unbalanced when it comes with gender ratio, so it's all good? Play what you want. edit: Name: "Hisame" Age: 10 Nationality: Japanese
Personality: Hisame is a dreamer. He doesn't really seem to have a personality of his own, often reflecting those around him and acting according to their wishes. Because of this, he rarely ever seems serious. But it's all just a facade. The sooner he gets things done, the less they'd bother him. Even though they're more or less enslaved by digimon, he's not really sure how he feels about violence or digimon. Though, he doesn't like holding power if he doesn't use it. He doesn't like long arguments or indecision, especially at a crucial moment. has a temper but takes a while to flip.
History:
Digivice: Ice Digimon: tylomon - > mega seadramon - > metal seadramon

i think i'm definitely sticking to fire and i won't take steel at all. i discussed some stuff with nacht and i think we've settled on some concepts, so we're going with that.
i'm going to take the line strikedramon - cyberdramon - justimon, like i said before. i've only got a few concepts down but i haven't really got an idea of the digivice thing. i'll catch you on hangouts tonight, tanz.

My hangouts is bugging lol. I'll restart later when I remember to.
Digivice thing, you mean how your character got their digivice? It doesn't have to be special like in the case of nacht's char. It could have simply gone to your char. It's possible that the digivice had not been owned before and you could explore the possibilities later IC, so no need to really think too much about it. Think more of what your character has been doing during the past two months, how they've been surviving and how things might have changed them, and so forth.
I'm considering picking up a socially-awkward, fat, boring kid. Thinking he would surprisingly go well with Ender if he's Kat's final choice. He lets himself get bullied and stepped on. He's pretty big but he doesn't know how to fight back, or see the point of it. He doesn't want to trouble others and does what he's told to without a question. For that same reason, he intends to use the digivice to fight only because he feels it's his obligation. He's really mundane and lacks a particular personality. He doesn't think it's a big loss if he dies, and he's not sure if he's even scared of dying.
So far, what I have is that he got separated from his younger cousin who his mother asked to take care of in the Shinjuku Incident. I'm thinking he has this one hobby or skill that he really likes and that's it. Was thinking of giving him Steel but...tough picking a Digimon.

oh, i think i'm going to hop in on this because digimon <3
and i think i'm going to go with the line sunflowmon --> lilamon --> lotosmon which is the wood digivice i think. character wise, i think i'll be making a girl who's a bit weak-hearted and against violence??? or maybe i'll make a stupidly impulsive girl who thinks that she's a hero. idk yet~
edit. edited in my little lady's app~ it's sill a wip so don't look okay?
Name: Saito Chiyo Age: 9 and a half the half is very important okayNationality: Japanese Personality: Chiyo is a courageous little thing. She doesn't know he meaning of fear and will jump headfirst into things with little to no consideration. Often times, this gets her into trouble but she doesn't let that deter her. She's stubborn and hates being looked down on or protected simply because she's so young. History: Before the incident, Chiyo lived a relatively normal life. She had a mom, a dad, and an older brother, all of which she loved, although her older brother is her favorite and she looks up to him greatly. Growing up, she was taught by her parents that compassion was the best trait a person could have. Chiyo, having grown up in a small town in the countryside where everyone knew everyone and there was never much danger of strangers causing trouble, was immersed in a type of lifestyle where, if you could help someone, you should, no matter the situation. A few days before the incident, Chiyo and her family had gone to Shinjuku to visit extended family. She was out with her brother at the movies when the incident happened. At first she was quite scared, despite her personality, but she had her brother with her so she calmed down within the first week. From then on, she's been staying with her brother, her thirteen year-old cousin, and her three year old cousin at her aunt's house. Digivice: wood Digimon: sunflowmon --> lilamon --> lotosmon Picture: hinata natsu from haikyuu she's so cute ahhhh and her hair is so a natural color okay
