in srsness though I think Russel Crowe overall did the best for the singing, but some of the songs for each of the characters really sold me, like Anne Hathaway's I Dreamed a Dream was brilliant for her. I really hope that gets an a whole bunch of awards. I'd like to see it get one for costumes too because those were brilliant.
P.S. TRIVIA did you know that according to Hugh Jackman on Ellen, all of the songs were filmed in one shot, save for the opening with the boat being pulled in because salt water kept drying everybody's mouths out?

Yep. While impressive, it is somewhat disappointing though since I wouldn't mind a studio soundtrack without the sound effects (the swordfight, etc.)

I don't doubt that it could be done, knowing the technology of studios today.

I HATED THIS MOVIEmainly because russel crowe can't sing, the love story between marius and cosette was contrived, the actor close-ups and the loud shout-singing and i've never seen so many try hard performances by an A class cast - only the thénardiers and i guess fantine were good I HAVE NO EMOTIONS. NO REGRETS.

I agree with Russel Crowe being a terrible singer here, but it wasn't so bad.
however if you think that enjolras and his red vest of doom is terrible then i would like to have a word with you
You guys go and try the concert version, that also is very stellar and imo has better signing. (to be fair, it is a concert.)

idk i hated it, i was distracted throughout the entire movie. watching it on my computer, i would exit out of full screen, lurk the internet during boring parts (which was majority of the movie) while listening. i'm a hard cookie to crumble, and i was not at all moved by anne. sure, her character is tragic, but she was only there for nine minutes, and imo is not enough time for me to adjust to her drastic, fast-paced situation and care about her. meh, i dreamed a dream isn't my favorite anyway hugh jackman was cool and all, he wasn't a great powerful force, but i enjoyed wolverine. gladiator russel crowe was a bore, i was like "zzzzzzz" when he came on screen, he's a terrible villain. did not care for the romance, i never do unless if its the movie atonement. as much as i LOVED the revolutionists, especially enjolras, my favorite do you hear the people sing is 5ever the international 10th anniversary: pls watch the real masterpiece here. les mis is one of those token "oscar bait" movies that is to bound to win more awards than it really deserves. i guess the only movie that ever made me sob was hachiko: a dog's tale, such an underrated fuckin movie, now that is a movie i am proud to call TRAGIC.

however if you think that enjolras and his red vest of doom is terrible then i would like to have a word with younah man i have no h8 for him as a character. just the entire movie, in general. edit: for me, I just have a hard time enjoying a musical adapted into a major motion picture. Mainly because the actors they hire aren't up to par with those who are musically trained for theater, and vice versa. It's just one of those cruxes in which it's either done very well (i.e. Chicago, Moulin Rouge) or horribly done (i.e. Nine, Burlesque, Phantom of the Opera).

I saw the 25th anniversary concert before I saw the movie adaptation, so there was only one Jean Valjean, one Javert, one Fantine, and one Enjolras in my head. I don't think the movie was particularly bad, but considering the massive amount of singing in it, I think they should have gone and cast people trained in theater for the parts as opposed to big name actors. /twocents
