this is a super awesome idea that i personally would love rp-ing. now there were several thoughts i wanted to share:
(a) i'd fall in the camp of not allowing any deities, rather only allowing players to act as their various demigod offspring. through their actions (i.e. ic posting) they can promote/please their parents and thus their parents can increase their magical mojo powers (i.e. upgrading yourself to higher tiers). ties in with the whole idea of faith as a site currency really.
(b) deities can't really interfere due Ancient Laws (note capitals) the concept came up in the pjo series too. so they can't directly influence humans who don't believe in them/invoke their power otherwise fate gets cranky- and that's a bad idea in general, even for immortals.
(c) because monsters were killing off their mortal/semi-mortal children the immortals pooled their power and made a safe haven of sorts in some other-dimensional place between the human world and between wherever the gods chill in their free time. demi-gods can slip easily from human world to this haven and the gods can occasionally pop in and say hi too. this also allows the demi-gods to pop back into the human world wherever they want.
(d) optional abilities could be earned via buying or site events, but should be a thing definitely. you could sell it as magical weapons or blessings from immortals not related to you, earned by doing them a solid.
(e) omg is the perfect name. stick with it for the lulz.
(f) slice of life and action, i say. for those people who want to live out their lives as normally as possible in the haven and for those who want the traditional hero route and go about killing monsters and earning immortal favors.
i have so many more ideas really, sorry if i'm rambling, but this is an idea i toyed with a while back sooooo. and i'll happily help out as an add/profile /claims mod if you want.

mini update: imma die these next two days, and then i have a birthday party, and a regular old house party and then a hangover to deal with sooo... long story short, wolf & i should chit chat and sort stuff out by the middle of next week! (tues/wednes)
below you will find how the majority is ruling on certain ideas:
deities are NOT playable. / no canons / deities do not affect the world except maybe through the people who believe in them concerns about having everyone spread out too much, but PORTALS to fix that problem. optional abilities are a yes. allow non-society mythologies. action packed, including leveling up n shizz'
below are some ideas brought to the table by certain people, and I would like to know how EVERYONE feels:
Also, can I suggest things for the events? Maybe you can issue a main prophecy and have the plot of the site run along the prophecy. Just like in Percy Jackson. To make it work, you can come up with a string of interrelated quests to be taken up by qualified members (like, members with a certain amount of 'Faith'). Also, can we have wars in there please? <3

ANOTHER UPDATE. (which I typed up before Rogue posted. )
zerohour At the moment, I'll going to say that the setting is in America and that these magical cities are just randomly dotted around the states. I think camps are a good idea for younger characters, however I'm not sure how older characters would fare in them. Maybe, there'll be internal camps inside magical cities. We could link them through magical portals/vehicles or in a separate plain/continent altogether, such as how the Labyrinth worked in PJO. What would you guys prefer?
Thanks minnie ! I'll look forward to seeing you there!
fudge, that's a wonderful idea. The site will be a mixture of sandbox and an actual plot. A Big Prophecy would be good and can tie in all the other various mythologies. Quests are an aspect that are already being implemented. They are specialised threads where characters participate in and are DMed by staff, and end up getting extra Faith and/or items.
There won't be wars in the short term, but I'm sure that after the site settles down, maybe wars (again monsters or within mythologies, like Heroes of Olympus) could be instigated.
Faith would definitely be a thing then.
Thanks MARCO, for your massive input! Yepyep, looks like deities will not be a thing then. It makes sense if you look at PJO. Your first two points are something that will be implemented. Previously, a demigod's Faith was based upon how much worship they would be getting, not their parent deity. The way you word it makes it seem that they earn power/faith via pleasing their parent - which I think is a better idea. (Since not everyone would want to be worshipped.) I'll make sure to change it. The Ancient Laws sounds like a plausible excuse as to why deities don't influence the mortal world anymore.
Without the protection of deities, monsters would run free. This would tie in for why demigod cities were built. Deities could have helped in the construction of these cities, however, I don't think that deities should chill in these cities (minimal interaction, yo). They'd be living in their higher higher plane of existence. Again, there is the question: should there be a separate plain or should there be demigod cities hidden in the midst of mortal cities?
Optional abilities/items can be bought using Faith. You'd also be able to gain abilities/items through Events and Quests.
So far, people have leant more towards the action genre. But it'd make for a good compromise for both to have we you said. The option to live in the demigod cities (and do stuff like go to uni, get a job etc), or to venture out and kill monsters.
Don't apologise for rambling! Any and all input is good and well appreciated! And it'd be awesome and super helpful to have another staff to help. I'll PM you my skype details.
p.s. I hope I didn't miss out on anything else that was posted.

wolf thanks for tagging me!
I'm always interested in mythos...especially greek based ones.
[ 01 ] Monthly events are good, but do bimonthly events if you need to. Sometimes if an event is incorporated into the role-play's plot some people make some events last a bit longer than the usual events.
[ 02 ] Of course! Add nice perks that appeal to the role-players.
[ 03 ] Action packed perhaps?
[ 04 ] I like Bask in Glory (BIG).
I'm interested in staffing or lending a hand. <3

I REALLY like this idea! So much! <3
I was wondering, would normal humans/mortals be playable? I won't be playing one but I'm just concerned for other rpers... Like, will these magical cities be like the Harry Potter series where muggles normal mortals can't see/access them? I understand people like playing normal every day humans in a fantastical world, but I'm worried that non demi gods/monsters will be limited in interaction...
Beyond that, I have no worries! I love how you're allowing every mythology which is A+ in my book! (Even though I'm 90% sure I'll be choosing a Greek Demigod x) Also the Faith system is love <3 I'm so excited and am interested on the progress of this site! 8'D Sign me up for interest! So I can know if you'll have a Beta/Soft Opening or something ^^ Thanks <3

Some mortals are blessed with the Sight, an ability that allows them to see into the mythological world. Some may even take this a step further and actively hone their skills in dealing with mythological beings whether it be to serve them, fight them or for their own personal gain. This means they would be able to access the demigod cities.

Mortals being playable... I'm a little iffy about that. Mortals having the gift of sight (such as being able to see through the mist, seeing the future, etc.) are very rare. I think it should be a privilege to play a Mortal, yknow, treat them like special characters?
Just an idea :]

To be honest, I don't think that many people would want to play a mortal character over a demigod character (or monster for that matter). But if there are too many mortals, then temporary bans will be put into place.

wolfSo how much work have you guys got done? Is there a time estimated as to when you guys will be open officially to the public? I'm planning on joining. Good news! We've almost done. Most of the info pages are done, the skin is done and all we need to do is to review everything to make sure that it all makes sense. The site will be in beta mode for about a week before it's 100% open and we start advertising. Expect to see it open in beta, maybe in the upcoming week. I'll tag everyone once it does open. Thank you for your interest!
