Was wondering what everyone's preferences are in creating a site and why. Do you like writing the information? Do you prefer to code? Maybe you like advertising or answering people's non-stop questions. Which role do you like playing on a site? 8}D
I personally like writing up the information. It takes patience like coding and there's usually a need to reference everything in order to stop loopholes but I think it's worth it. =u= Especially when people actually follow the system and have a good time. /o/
I like looking over applications too. I dunno why. Just being able to go over mistakes and correct them and hear people say, "Yeah! I'm finally accepted!" makes me happy. =u= I leik helping people and making them not sad.
But coding. Guuuh. D8 I'm still learning how to code but even now, I can't make anything for crap. I dunno how to organize codes, I dunno how to do those little border thingies, I know nothing about CSS. lolol If it weren't for some of my friends, who actually DO know how to code, and everyone here on the site, I'd probably never try tackling my own site. lol SO THANK EVERYONE. =u=

writing up the information is also my favorite part of making a site. i love the researching, the learning and crafting that it takes to turn a piece of reality and put a creative twist to it. i'm also always the board maker on every site i've ever administrated or co-administrated, so it's pretty much become second nature.
accepting applications is, to me, one of the most interesting parts of the staff's abilities, because now that the playing grounds have been set, i'm intrigued to see everyone's unique interpretation of the world and their original contribution to the site's plot.
now i know a lot of people groan about advertising, but i honestly don't mind the task. i like the feeling of satisfaction after a bout of furious copy and pasting and the surge of guests that come as a result. it's always great to see a few of those guests thinking the site is worthwhile and joining up :3
as for the things i don't like: i'm not a huge fan of coding. i'm not as skilled as i'd like to be yet and as much as i'd love to learn, i simply haven't put coding at the top of my priorities list. in my mind, we all have our specialities, and coding simply wasn't my calling. i'd much rather work wholeheartedly on the boards while someone else is working just as hard on the coding, instead of me half-assing both.

i'm an info writer and a coder. i like the making things part of building a forum. getting together all the important threads, making the skin, making templates for anything like apps or sign ups... i just like it =u=

I really like coming up with the design of the site, and all the thread layouts. And making them look nice, and match and stuff.
approving profiles is also really awesome, since you get to read about all the different characters people are making, and wow they are just so cool. plus if I'm the one to read over all the profiles, I'll have an easier time keeping track of them later.
my favorite thing after coding though, is actually updating lists. I don't know why, but I get a load of satisfaction out of making sure the face claim and stuff is all up to date and clean.
I don't really like writing site info as much as I like coming up with it, since I tend to get really long winded in my explanations, and then guests whine about how long everything is, and holy shit can we skip some of this?
I also don't much care for marking character's pending, or denying them, since I hate criticizing people's work ;w;

Writing information is something I'd like to...but terrible at. I don't really have a preference but my best role is in discussion, brainstorming, and critique. I love going through all the information and clarifying stuffs.

I love planning out the site, coming up with the locations, and information and stuff like that. I do it for fun sometimes. I've got a couple of sites just sitting around, because of a creativity splurge I had.

Lol I can really relate to the not knowing how to code for crap bit. Though Ive been learning a lot, I still have to ask a million questions when I'm making a new skin haha ^^" Making sites is really entertaining though. I know after I made my first one, I really enjoyed being able to help people too. Just watching a site grow, and having an original idea flourish with the help of other rpers is a really good feeling.
Not to mention, that you get to meet all kinds of new people depending on what type of site you're making. That's always a big plus ^^ lol

i create worlds and destroy them. that's as direct as i could possibly be tbh. in many different interpretations. in short: i like world building, events, npcing villains, destroying lives, and making the site incredibly awesome through plot surges. i like designing the world itself more than anything though. that feeling of godhood, establishing co-gods, towns, villages, landscapes, and anything else in it. then whenever i want to, i could just nuke it. nuke it all. slaughter the innocents with hordes or orc bloodriders raping and pillaging all who stand in their way or god simply getting tired of mortal beings and ripping the world into two. twisting the plot's fabric, pushing boundaries - all the boundaries - and never allowing the site to be predictable or the same as anything else. /boner.

I can;t code or do graphics. It's information, organisation, research and day to day management for me.

/ revives this thread because y not (not sure why it popped up on new threads but-)
i really enjoy designing the layout of the site - the skin, how to layout boards, mini profiles, and adding little things to make people say "wow, that's beautiful". i like making the site i'm staffing eye candy and catchy so people get drawn in. i also tend to write the information and such - sometimes i make the threads for that too. i like writing the plot and rules and stuff, it's fun. i'm really bad at board descriptions tho, and if it's just me running the site they tend to be images. :'D but otherwise yeah, i naturally take the job of skinner and info-writer.

coming up with the plot. creating the world. writing it all out. (yes i actually like writing the tedious board descriptions). overactive imaginations ftw.
i don't always have the patience to skin from scratch, but i do like coming up with the colour scheme. and i guess advertising isn't so bad. like hey, i'm pretty lifeless so i figure i might as well do it.
what i can't stand is updating the stats and shiz. like the census. i never remember. or i'll miss one. and then i have to go back and try to sort all the hundred character apps, and just— wow yeah that's not fun.

I consider myself more of 'the people person', the sort of person that carries the site through its life after its birth by being an active member, being chatty in the cbox, creating events, and trying to edit the world/site structure to make it more attractive. I'm usually the most out-spoken person out of all the people I've adminned with.
When I began adminning, I couldn't skin. Now, I can, and I think I've always not minded advertising as much as other people. I learned because I felt guilty asking Pianissimo to keep making them for me |D so she gave me some guidance and I figured it out.
What I suck at is the original conception of a site idea, and mechanics. But once those are nailed down, I can write up anything as far as information and boards go. Literally every site I've staffed on, that was someone else's responsibility. i'm really just the one most members buddy buddy with, but if they have a serious question about the site to ask, i'm not the one gone to first, haha.
