So, I'm just curious, so thought I'd post this up! What do you guys think on post templates? I realize quuuuite a few of you like to make them, but do you like to use them? Or do you prefer the simplicity of not using them? Or do you not care, and just go with whatever everyone else is doing on the site you're on?
Just curious!

I've had too many people yell and bitch at me because I asked (nicely) if they could change the font size in their template because I found it difficult to read. I don't like them, although I think they can be good coding and design practice.

Of all people, I actually ticked "yes" for this.
I do like simple templates. Being readable is very important. I prefer if people use them to create an rping mood in the thread since OOC and IC accounts aren't usually separated. I actually started out rping without using templates so I don't think I'm being biased about this. It's not really a big deal. If people could use blockquotes only for rp threads and not for ooc posts as well, I think it's fine.

i clicked "no" for myself, but "i don't reeeeeeally care" applies to my thoughts on other people using templates roleplay wise. i'm not anti-templates or anything, but i'm not the type to really to use them. i'm the type who is in different towards it (technically) but i feel that aside from making a post pretty, they're redundant - which is something i've only come to peace with recently, actually. i'll use them every so often because i have an urge or a need to have some sort of template for a post, but even then they're strictly there to make my post look pretty. also; I think they can be good coding and design practice. ^ why i still code templates basically

[style= border-left: 3px solid#217aff; padding: 10px] Everyone who knows me knows I love shiny pretty things. Heck, even my random chatter has a post template on sites I go to. (Lets face it, Ria goes overboard with everything.) Coding is fun for me, I like to flex my creative muscles and it makes me happy to see other people using my templates every once in a while.
In the end, it's only to make my posts pretty, but I'm such a fan of perty things that I can no longer post without a template. orz

I like templates, I just can't be assed to do the extra few clicks to use them.

i think it all really depends on what site i'm on, or the thread. lately i've been into either using simple ones, or none at all. i really don't mind. plus, blockquote blockquote, and justify is so easy. /cry

to me, they're funner to make than to use. coding is its own art.

I like post templates, but not for regular posts. I like them for special announcements, newsletters, journals, things like this.

I said no, but quite frankly, as long as I can read the font (both the color and the font size), I like templates fine. If you don't use them, that's cool. If you do, that's cool too. It helps me identify a character when I'm just glancing through recent posts. As for myself, sometimes I use them, sometimes I don't. If I'm in a big group thread, I almost certainly use at least a very simple template though. As said, it helps me pick out a particular character--ie, my own--at a glance when I'm going back through the thread.
A big fat OH HELLS NO to scrolling templates for long posts though. Anything over 300 words really should not be in a scrolling template. I don't mind short posts (say 200 or less) in a scrolly template, but even then, no scroll is best.
Basically, I just want to be able to read the post. I don't care how it's presented as long as it doesn't hurt my eyes.

i don't like using them at all. i just size, blockquote x2/3, and justify. sometimes i might even right align notes at the bottom of my post, but that's very rare.

I hate them. xD
I hate them most when a member uses them and they post it with a note like "Will type post soon." Yeah, don't post until your post is done, bra. Sheesh.
But yeah, I hate them. They're usually a mess, anyway. I once saw one that had about 100px width of space for the words in a long scrollbar to accommodate all the photos. Ew.

But yeah, I hate them. They're usually a mess, anyway. Ouch. I think there are a lot of templates out there that aren't a mess, mang. From what you're saying, it seems you just don't like them based from the bad experience you have from rpers who misuse them. But you don't have to say all templates are terrible because they're a "mess." Not all templates are like that. Because I make templates myself, it's rather insulting to hear. But PS though I'm not really offended lmao. Just saying.

it depends. what do you mean. what is a template to you.
what i call a template is anything that takes style tags, enhanced table tags, or the like. that is a template to me. you only used float: right or float: left? fuck that, it's a fucking template bitch. i'm sorry for my language. it uses any sort of style tags, it's a template. it doesn't have to be fancy, but if you really don't care about templates, bare it all. you style it up, it's a template in it's own right, no matter how 'common' or 'plain' it is.
so fuck yeah i'm okay with templates and using templates. sometimes i cringe when a person uses one of my old ones because man do they suck. but yeah, i much prefer a minimalist style.
i only use my own templates okay. i code them myself, if i like it i use it, if i don't then it never sees the light of day. so i'm not sure if that would count as 'yes' or an 'i don't care'.
i'm used to people using templates, though. that's why i'm alright with it. i do say i am more compelled to simplify my own designs to nothing but maybe a 'float:left' and justify and stuff like that if most of the site using that.
of course, i also love seeing the pretty designs. the current site i'm on now uses templates a lot, so i've been experimenting with different designs. also about the font thing, i like small fonts, but at the same time when they're so small i have to zoom in to read it that is a bit ridiculous. for that reason i really don't think the font has to go any smaller than this size.
orz this turned into an essay omg i'm sorry
