so i found out that there's this troller guy via this rp i'm on and i thought i'd post a little notice here so that we can all watch out.
anyway this troller/spammer is going around posting disturbing images in pms. so if you see something from an unrecognizable guest that could be a questionable message, don't open it. delete it and report to your admin (or if you are an admin, make sure to let your members know so they won't be the victim of grossness). it seems that they also sometimes will post a thread, so just keep an eye out for an unsavory character.

I've seen talk about this guy on RPGD - turning on account activation via e-mail seems to do the trick, as well as blocking the encyclopaedia dramatica url because that's where he seems to get most of his images

If anyone's interested, here is the thread on RPG-D, lots of info on how to block trolls and what other admins have done to stop this particular one.

My site was actually a victim of this some time ago. A troll sent out a mass PM to literally everyone in the site, I don't even know how they got all of the usernames, considering the fact that there were about a thousand users on the site. The title of the PM was something along the lines of "Hi, I'm new here!" and the name of the sender seemed friendly, but when you open it, they're all gifs of scary stuff.
Worst part is that they signed up using a well-known moderator of the site's e-mail, and while yes, the account wasn't activated and the moderator himself stepped forward to announce that they were victimized as well, it was still kind of shocking.
So yeah, careful if someone you don't know sends you a PM that looks 'friendly'. You never know.

That's very odd. If anyone gets the PM they should log the IP address of the sender and report it to Proboards. Even if he uses an IP randomizer there's still lots of ways to track that back to the true IP address and they'd know how. Technically this person can be charged in the court of law for internet bullying via harassment and exposing anyone under the age of 18 in the U.S. to pornographic images, up to a hefty fine and even jail time. I know it sounds gross but keep the PM if you get it and the IP address (even if he deletes himself you can still get the IP via the member log) if there's enough 'evidence' he can be charged.

I've been on a bunch of sites that were attacked by this troll. You can almost always tell by the title of the PM, which is usually along the lines of "Hiiiiii! " or "Wanna see something cool?" to attract your attention. You can also tell by the length of the PM, which contains a lot of pornographic material; looking at the scrollbar will help. This troll is also known to delete its account before it's IP address can be caught, so a PM from a guest is not unusual.

"He's also gone by the names 'Kneegrow' and 'Merica'." Provided by Clarent on RPG-D. Please keep an eye out!
