cleaned scan! blocky blocky mess. smaller brush - i think this is about 7px - to give and define shape 2 and 3px shadows and highlights! blocky white thing - i don't always do this but i thought i'd include it anyway. set it to overlay! messy unbalanced mess. cleaner! the way meg does things means you don't have to clean up your mess as much, but i personally enjoy cleaning to break things up. nice and balanced! usually i do this at the very very end, because i also like to grab colours from the rest of the image and throw them in to the hair as well. new layer on top of everything - pulling out the darkest colours, darken the roots and use the smudge tool on the tips to make them seamless. i also played with the opacity of my white overlay layer, got out my 1 and 2 px brushes and touched things up, and coloured the lineart of the hair a bit to make it all sit together nicely c: i ended up with about 15 layers because i make a new one for pretty much every stroke. it can definitely be done in 3 or 4 though if you're not as obsessive about keeping everything separate as i am xD

lol they were the first colors in my palette XD
when i go through this, i just use the one layer (three if it's not coloring on the lines) =u= i also have a tablet so i don't have to worry about making my brush size smaller.
