I think what Paddy is saying is that not joining an RP just because of the small details you don't like in a hosting is stupid (and I agree). Well, just for the record, I don't think anyone of us do not agree to that. PS. I just realized that the "as a member" thing quote came from me. Welp, should have quoted on me on that because I could have just elaborated on what I meant when I said that :x it is an old thread so I had to come back and check who it came from.

Well, just for the record, I don't think anyone of us do not agree to that. and yet most of this thread is about a 'proboards' vs 'jcink' community, people 'moving' to one or the other, and littered with tiny little reasons why they're 'not moving to jcink (as a member)'. the language employed in certain posts is very divisive and based around inconsequentialities. go figure.

going to regret this but
I appreciate that you elaborated on your points Paddy but it came off more like you just attacking people for having small things that bother them, and having read through the posts, I really don't think anyone was that unreasonable. Small things add up and can definitely be a reason to not switch to another host. I mean... here. I absolutely hate paper that is bent. It bothers me and riles me up. I will always opt for a non-bent paper if I can. It's stupid and insignificant, but that little thing bothers me that much.
It's the same with these forum hosts. It doesn't matter how small or insignificant the issue is. Some people simply do not have the tolerance to deal with these small things that bother them and would rather stick with what works for them. I don't see anything wrong with that and there's absolutely no reason to practically attack people for how they feel.
I said this in an earlier post, but there is a big enough difference between jcink and proboards (and I'm sure other hosts) to affect members and give them a preference as a member and not a coder or admin.
Also - there are people that won't use proboards because proboards doesn't have doHTML. I consider that trivial because clearly you can make gorgeous templates without using it. It's nice and very convenient, but it's not necessary. Yet this is just another of these stupid petty things you seem to be against, but for proboards and not jcink.
also i'm sorry if i sound drunk or something i'm not use to typing novels anymore.

tbh i think most of my issues with jcink that aren't aesthetic or functionality displeasure boil down to "admins can have the option to read every member's private messages and members have no way of knowing that they are doing so", especially given that i've been ~behind the scenes~ and seen staff who plotted to do that to monitor their members without ever telling them they were going to read their correspondence.
idk if that has changed since i last checked (which was maybe earlier this year) but that feature and all the uncomfortable implications that come with it have kind of put me off jcink for good. i have too many control issues 4 that shit.

but I don't want to go <br> or <p></p> every time I want to skip a line. It's the little things that get me about Jcink. Plus Jcink loads slower for me, than proboards.
I didn't know you have to add a </p> lol. At first, I thought I'd dislike having to do that too but I got used to it - plus, I end up liking having the ability to space in coding to make it look neater. It does load slower than proboards though :x You don't have to do this. After my template coding at the top, I throw in a [/dohtml] tag and then have my post and then use a [dohtml] tag for the rest of the coding. Also, for me, proboards always loaded slower so- idk-- Proboards Enhanced Table tags always have an awkward phase between loading and loaded.

It also has so many errors lately but I think it's 'cuz they're focusing more on v5 than v4 these days.

i just want to add in my two cents about the whole "admins can view your private messages". (i had a whole long rant, but i felt like it would start a fight so...) if you don't trust the staff enough to believe they WON'T read through your private messages, then you shouldn't really be on that site. while yes, people aren't always as they seem, you should still trust them enough if you're going to join their site. not everyone is the same, and i don't think that just because a group of people look through everyone's messages that you should put off the whole jcink community. but, either way, to each their own, your opinions/likes/dislikes are yours and yours only. i'm simply stating my thoughts on the matter.

Also, I believe that only the root admin is capable of checking the PMs sent. However, I don't really think that is that big of an issue considering most of the time, the only PMs people send are like " oh here's my skype --- " or " here's our thread --- " and most conversations are usually carried to skype/aim/yim etc. Also, to be honest, I think a lot of admins never notice that, let alone turn on the settings for it.
