So, for those that do rp on pokemon sites.
How important is the leveling mechanic to you? Do you feel like its a chore, and you would rather that you could have what you wanted, or do you enjoy it?
I'm wondering on exactly how to handle it for my site. I want the focus to be the story and I don't want people to feel like they have to grind to get their pokemon to the level they want so they can have the pokemon they want.
opinions would be very appreciated!

I'm not really into a leveling system in Pokemon rps, it just feels like a bother to deal with and in my opinion, not really all that necessary. If you do use one I'd say make it simple, because stats can really ruin the fun of some rps cause sometimes it makes things a bit unfair to new members vs long term members. Again just an opinion.

I grew up with some sort of Pokemon leveling mechanic but if I were to freeplay, I don't think there's any purpose to it. We've all seen freeplay Pokemon work around. Limit the amount of Pokemon they start, the rare Pokemon, the move sets, etc. I've had an experience with a freeplay Pokemon site that had stats and the typical Pokemon plot. People focused a lot on catching Pokemon and leveling. Took out the fun from what I was expecting especially with the potential of the plot and the amount of participative rpers. So I think if you go with the traditional set of Pokemon rules, you'll be fine. Best focus your attention on the plot as that is what you want to highlight.

Thanks guys! I'm definitely giving it some thought, and want to implement a system that people will like.

Ugh, gotta admit, I hate stats. Before I built PFT, I spent an entire year (on and off) searching for a Pokemon site that fit my tastes. Admittedly, I like things to be a bit darker, too, so I didn't want some fluffy site. I didn't want stats. I tried that and it sucked all the fun right out of it. If I wanted to rehash the video game, I'd pick up one of the games and... you know, play it. For me, I wanted something more like any RP site--just with Pokemon added into the mix, Pokemon lore, and the Pokemon setting. But without canons, which is also hard to find. Haha!
But if you mean for a site you're making, that's going to be all up to you. There are a bazillion Pokemon sites out there so whatever you do with yours, make it stand out and make it different from any you've ever seen. Otherwise, what's the point? You could have just joined one if you want to make it exactly like somebody else's Pokemon site.
I'd also say that if YOU personally want stats, that's what you should do because you're going to have to stick with that forum and it's much better if you actually like it. <3
