I might have done this in the past actually.
It's fun when you're 12.
As for word counts in apps, I hate them, but I do appreciate them when they are reasonable because it makes me write and it turns out, I like what I write.
I hate RP samples for the sole purpose that I'm lazy but it's really better to have them than not. You can kick members who plagiarize profiles but it would be harder to kick them out when you find out that they're not meeting the standard quality you thought they had.

Remember that terrible guy who had two rule pages, and you have to read each and every line of the rules because the password is hidden somewhere in there, and it turns out it was just an instruction that the password was the last word of the first rule page and had to be highlighted?
That person was me.
Fun times.

A lot of RL sites now have freeform apps that you pretty much do whatever as long as you meet the basic requirements. I think a lot of RL rpers that have been roleplaying rl characters for a while, generally just type that much naturally.
i also remember when pretty much all of the sites i was on had like scavenger hunts and goofy games during the holidays, and you got prizes if you found all of them or won. It was sooooo much fun (maybe this is the younger me talking). But yeah, people don't seem to have those sort of things anymore?

Fun times.there was one site i remember trying to join that had you search through their rules, unscramble the underlined letters (yes letters not words) and get the password. needless to say i left pretty quickly.

You know, passwords are one thing.
I was that bitch that made you put my affiliate banner on your site before letting you advertise. And if it wasn't there, bam, instant deleted ad.

I've only been on one site who used the password system thingie. LUCKY. I think. I dunno. I never really saw them as extremely terrible since I always read through the entire rules anyway. But I totally understand the reasoning behind it. There are just some people....

man i remember when forums didn't even have applications to join. you would just join and make threads. there weren't even cboxes being used by anyone!

Even worse than having to find a password to put in the app itself, having to find the password to unlock the board every single time you want to look. If I was an admin I would probably never check for new apps cause they won't show up as an active thread or whatever unless you went and unlocked the board ._. i also remember when pretty much all of the sites i was on had like scavenger hunts and goofy games during the holidays, and you got prizes if you found all of them or won

One site I've recently found still has those. granted it is an animal RP (and still has wordcounts) I also remember when one account for multiple characters was pretty common. And sites that managed to last long enough to actually have preexisting OTMs. Maybe I haven't been looking hard enough but nowadays all, or most, of the sites I come across only ever have filler text/images for them. EDIT: omg how bout XAT BOXES

to be fair, mine only ever have filler images because i'm too lazy to actually run an otm.

Ahaha, I used to be on those password sites- my friends dragged me on, but would never tell me the password and everything was like...size eight font because they wanted me to ragequit. Too bad they didn't seem to realize that hitting the modify button made it normal sized, but I just let them think I was magic.
I have minimum word counts for apps, but they're small like 100 or something. I used to be on a site that required 6k for history, and I finished it, god knows how, but had no interest in anything after that. That was stupid. I understand minimums especially in something that requires descriptions and history, but...god I am not writing a 6k app as a must ever again. Though I've done it for fun before cause I was bored. Even better when the requirement is so high, and at the end they say, "Tl;dr." and you just rage quit.
I remember Xat boxes! Oh those things scared me.

I don't have minimum word counts anymore on apps because I'm too lazy to read apps and generally just skim them anyway, no matter how detailed and exciting they are. As long as you get the general point across, I feel it's not the biggest deal, yanno?.
Oh got Xat boxes...I hated them, they're so ugly. :'D
