I don't think this is necessarily true, though it depends what exactly you consider is good writing. Writing is very broad. Poets are writers and if roleplayers are good poets, do you think they're good rpers too? I've rped with people who are good and not as good in writing and they're ability to roleplay varies. Writing skill definitely comes into play but if you don't know how to utilize it properly when it comes to roleplaying, it doesn't matter because the structure of rp is different from writing. i guess it comes down to the fact that i consider all of this stuff listed elsewhere good writing? like a good writer knows how to plot, keep the story moving, be open to ideas, etc. it isn't a title earned on a sentence to sentence quality basis. it's a category that should encompass everything mentioned. if you can churn out a 600 word post of beautiful imagery that doesn't advance the rp in anyway, you might be producing beautiful imagery but you're not being a good writer and that's not good writing.

Some people probably try to approach RPing as if they're writing a novel, which probably breeds the overly descriptive parts in their posts. Actions drive the RPing, so if they plot is moving forward, I consider it good RP. Sure there may be some fluff along the way, but too much inner dialogue and it becomes a novel that others are forced to read.
