most of the characters i want to make are fantastical. i want them to have funky hair or otherwise and on top of that, the sites i want to join are usually fantasy based too. i can't get into the fantasy feel of it all looking at selena gomez or justin bieber's face claims... i just can't.
Okay, I actually sorta agree with this. Unless it's modern fantasy, I don't really like RL faces in my fantasy, either. I admit, when I read a fantasy novel, I envision it more like an animated movie than a RL one. (Also Myungsoo! <333)

to me, anime feels more fictional in setting, both plotwise and characterwise.
Pretty much. Roleplaying is different from writing to me. Writing anime fanfiction and original fiction isn't really different but roleplaying them is another matter. Then again though the kind of original fiction I write is juvenile. That's just my type of story, okay. I find dramatic stuffs more acceptable in animanga. For instance, in animanga I can... 1. Have bangs cast a shadow on eyes because special effects 2. Describe pretty eyes all over again 3. Wear capes because I have no fashion taste 4. Make super long speeches and be counted as cool and not a weirdo 5. Other shenanigans that isn't "realistic" in real life With all these shallow reasons considered, I can easily put in "RL RP" elements and it would be cool. But I can't put "Animanga RP" elements in RL RP because it's just too weird. So much more freedom in animanga I guess. And really, I'm just a child at heart.

THAT DOESN'T EXIST OKAY. Also I have to jump on the "animanga has a more freedom to it" bandwagon. When i browse some rl sites and look through characters some of them are kinda...I guess bland, in the sense that real people can be bland, and the only times that they look interesting to me is if they're from a a personified site. I always feel like the characters i make would be too...outcasty, socially unwanted and all that crap. that's really all i can say and it makes no sense.

i bounce between both communities so..
ANIME FACE CLAIM SITES-- in my experience, i haven't found as many literate roleplayers on anime sites as i have on celeb sites. i do acknowledge that there are some but it feels like finding needles in a hay stack. all the playbys -or faceclaims, whatever you wanna call them- are perfect and without flaws. i mean yea sure, some of them might have scars but what about overweight people? what about black people? what about females who aren't dressed in sailor fuku or kimonos from the feudal era? what about males who aren't all -what do ya call them- bishounen? i like variety among characters and it's not so easy to find that in the anime realm.
REAL LIFE FACE CLAIM SITES-- there are things about celeb sites that put me off too, like the influx of drama whores. i've seem more pointless ooc drama on celeb sites than i ever have on anime sites. another thing is that too many have a preppy/unrealistic feel. like it's the set of.. i don't know, gossip girl or pretty little liars (no offense to any fans of those shows) i find a million and one roleplays set in los angeles or new york, but rarely anywhere normal like ohio or even connecticut. why does everything always have to be so picture perfect and unrelatable? a roleplay based in the slums is more appealing to me when compared to stepford.

Agreeing with this but I found there to be more variety in anime character than celeb fcs. Because...the former, well, they're celebrities. Models. They look the same for me. I'm really bad at distinguishing people between their ethnicity but to me they all look the same, they're all beautiful. It feels so fake and superficial to me. At least with animanga fcs, it's really fake. If I wasn't allowed to use animanga fc, I'd rather not use an fc at all.

I guess by "variety" you mean pale skinned / white people with different hair styles, hair color, and eye color because I swear, that's literally all anime fc's are. You rarely ever get a dark-skinned person or any person of color. At least with models, actors, and actresses I can actually find someone who is not white and might actually have a different hairstyle (dreadlocks, afro, braids, etc). There are some FC's that are black but considering the vast amount of anime characters, there really aren't. Not to mention that if you do icon from fanart, you have to deal with blatant whitewashing of characters (look up Kazuma from Summer Wars, who is tan in the canon film but is portrayed as being very light). Just look on GS' master list for face claims. You'll find less than 10 face claims which are black / poc / or even just tan and that's just kinda sad considering how many FC's we actually have up here. I respect your opinion but I really do not find any variety in anime fc's. There are models who have stuff like freckles, different hair textures, different face shapes, etc.

I think there's so much awesome variety in rl fcs for different races and ages and body types all that great stuff but a lot of the rl rps I see don't really take advantage of that. They're just young, good looking white people anyways and that makes me sad.

There are models who have stuff like freckles, different hair textures, different face shapes, etc. Well my definition of variety isn't really by skin and eye color, nose size, face shape, and the like so we're talking about two different things. As I said, I can't and don't really differentiate people that way. Celebrities end up looking the same for me because of their idol beauty which never really sat comfortably well for me. I cannot think of them as beautiful when I'm aware they were made to strike as such for us, the consumers. As for the GS master list, I'm already aware of that but I don't think it's logical to use it to draw a conclusion if you're implying there aren't enough X people because the list doesn't provide many of them. It's not that there aren't any X people in animanga. Rather, just not enough highlighted for mainstream. I'm just gonna clear that I'm not trying to be racist here lmao, and I just find it easier to find characters of different build, skin/eye color, etc than having to look for celebs that could match my character. You probably saw how much I failed when I tried looking for a celeb fc for my char. And I'll be honest that I never really think of physical traits like freckles into consideration. It's...a cultural thing. We don't have them here xD If I were to list all the physical traits I take into consideration, it would be body size and type, eye/hair color, facial hair, CLOTHES (SO IMPORTANT TO ME), and their general expression. I don't really look into the finer details like the ones you mentioned. Just imagine me going into Sims 3. My Sims look alike except for their clothes and I am sadly okay with that.

I don't like to join reallife faceclaim RPs because I don't know actors, musicans, models or someone else who looks like I imagined my character. Moreover I can draw my characters by myself and it's ... hm ... don't know, it's more beautiful. Apart from that I don't know any reallife faceclaim RP wich comes up to my taste.

They're just young, good looking white people anyways and that makes me sad. Or in Somnia's case, young, good looking Asian people. OTL I had a pretty good variety when I first started out, from age to ethnicity but since everybody else makes young Asians, it's easier to fit in with young Asians. Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with it. But I would also like to see more variety. You might find that many sites would also love and welcome that. At least, if they have people like me on them. Just because the majority of members make characters in a certain way doesn't necessarily mean everybody on the site is that way. They might just be waiting for somebody like you to break them out of the rut!
