okay soooooooo on a jcink site i'm working on we're using pips to show off the user's member group color. their name is on the pip as well but we're running into a color issue.
if we make the names white on the member group, they're visible on the pips but they're all white on the active member list so you can't tell people apart. but if we change the member group to the color (like blue) then the pip is also blue and therefore you cant see the user's name
so we want to have a white name on the pip but want the colored name on the active members list.
does anyone know how to get around this issue? thanks!

Er, having a hard time understanding this question. You mean to say you're using pip to pertain to a certain member group in general? And by "their name in is the pip" you mean the pip image is placed along the same line as the name?
I'm assuming you mean something like NAME ♔ with ♔ being the pip image.
Yeah I'm pretty confused by what you mean by "visible on the pips." If you could provide screenshots, that would be convenient.

here are the screens. the first one is of the colored users in the active members/whatever section. note that this doesn't need to be changed, because we want those colors to be there. SCREEN ONEscreen two is of the pip. see how there's no name in it? that's cause it's the same blue as you saw in screen one. we need THIS username to be in white so you can see it over the pip color. SCREEN TWO

You can override it in your miniprofile.
<span style='color:#0D8185' id='stuff'><span style='color: #ffffff;'>ELIAS GEANT</span></span>
If that doesn't work, add this to your css:
.charname a { color: white important!; }
and edit in your miniprofile to:
<span style='color:#0D8185' id='stuff' class='charname'>ELIAS GEANT</span>

Well, I tried those and the first one worked but turned it white on the online users once again. Adding the class didn't seem to have any effect.

try adding .mynameiswhat div div a span { color:white!important; }. jk, i don't think this works? something you could try is text-shadow? add text-shadow: 0px 2px 0px rgba(255, 255, 255, 1); to .mynameiswhat a { } and fiddle around with the numbers.
or .mynameiswhat a { text-shadow: 1px 3px 0px rgba(255, 255, 255, 1); }

well, that changed it but why on earth would that effect it when it wouldn't turn white? FF this is really weird, I don't understand what's going on.

lmao. it's because when you have a span tag on something, it makes it really hard to change it. Actually, go into your membergroups and change the Span tags to divs, and then give it a name, so
it'd be something like prefix: <div class="adminname"> and then in the css, set .adminname { color:COLORHEX; } and then for the miniprof you can do:
.mynameiswhat .adminname { color:white; } .mynameiswhat .membername { color:white; } etc.

WAIT! I think I've got it, I added another span class to the end so that now I have
<span style='color:#0D8185' id='SCOUTING LEGION'><span class="legion">
and I think it worked!
