how do you not like DBZ or YYH? and, what i learned is that black people really like naruto and the ones that don't don't really give a shit? the only real shit i got from liking anime/manga would come from my cousins mocking me for watching naruto and i don't really think they didn't not like it b/c they would watch it with me??? sooo. elementary school was like, toonami: gundam wing, IGPX, dbz, code lyoko etc and then at the end yu-gi-oh took over. Yu-Gi-Oh went through like middle and highschool, but uh, naruto forever ruled middleschool. people wearing headbands and coming to school with real kunais and shuriken. There was an anime club in my hs and that was really popular b/c we would duel and play brawl and xbox and everyone would come to play. held debates about bleach and op and naruto and other manga etc. but i think the one thing i saw was not many people RP'd? or were open about it i guess. maybe its b/c im in a big city, so there's a lot people who don't rly give a shit about the other person and interests.

I can confirm that black people are actually generally cooler with anime than most others. Agreeing with this. I'm a black guy and most of my white friends complained that in their previous schools, no one liked them for liking anime while I never had problems.

just popping in to say my mom kind of forced me into hiding it?? i know that i was banned from adult swim, and toonami and shit were actually blocked from our tv. i never asked about manga bc i never knew that part of bookstores and libraries even existed until recently. i didn't even start getting into anime until i got a laptop and met toska. my brother had a legend of zelda phase and he found the manga section of the bookstore and he got a bleach book and a buuunch of zelda stuff and i got into manga through him lol
but yeah there's a huge stigma at my school. people for some reason associate roleplaying/anime/mange = being a loser and i have no idea why? the anime club at my school isn't super popular either. but yeah everyone who people KNOWS actively reads manga and anime and shit are usually avoided.

I can confirm that black people are actually generally cooler with anime than most others. I can agree too lolol Being black myself, I'm just gonna go ahead and fourth this. I wasn't really aware until I was older, but other black dudes and dudettes are way into DBZ, which is great. how do you not like DBZ or YYH? and, what i learned is that black people really like naruto and the ones that don't don't really give a shit? Yep, yep. I love Naruto. Fell in love with it the since it (the original, censored run) premiered on Toonami. ...Also I started re-watching YYH on youtube. This thread is getting surprisingly accurate about things. Next thing I know, someone is gonna be like "Black people also love Case Closed." Which will also be absolutely true in my case.

I wrote a long ass reply to this earlier today but I decided not to post it. TL;DR version is that my public high school didn't have a stigma against it at all. As long as you didn't act like a weeaboo and kept your grades up, liking anime was perfectly fine and acceptable. The first thing that'd pop into someone's mind at the mention of anime would probably be Death Note or Spirited Away (I'm aware Miyazaki really isn't anime per say, but they can't tell the difference), not hentai or skeevy shit. Being into animanga was basically the same as being a Trekkie or a Tolkien nut.
In general, animanga is really popular in my area anyway. The anime club has always been really big at my high school and also our rival high school. As long as it's not your only interest and you're not an obnoxious japanophile, nothing wrong with liking what you like.

can this thread be about Cased Closed now? If this thread becomes about case closed, can someone link me to a dubbed version of the Case Closed x Lupin The III crossover movie? I'd appreciate it. Like, a lot.

wow you guys are writing like essays and i'm like hurr derp
uh yeah i enjoyed semi-art-celebrity status during middle school bc of anime drawings, so i guess i wasn't really stigmatized for it at school. unless we're talking about assholes who like to rain on parades in general but i pretend those people don't exist, so.
my parents did shun this stuff as a complete waste of time and i had to hide a lot of volumes that i'd buy. i think they were semi-okay with it until they realized that anime wasn't really just a childhood phase. even now they don't really approve but w/e idc i'm an adult now I DO WHAT I WANT
like 80% of the people i know who are into animes irl are...what ppl might call weaboos? idrc tho. i don't usually talk about anime with other people unless we share fandoms either way so. and ditto on what a lot of y'all say about liking things. weaboos are honestly no different from the weaboos of other shit like harry potter.
honestly tho, i don't...really care that much if people get a weird impression of me. that's kind of to be expected since anime isn't quite /that/ well understood by outsiders

I get a lot of shit off my parents for liking comics and manga - I just tune them out now. It isn't worth the focus on them if they can't y'know respect me. However I don't really.... draw that style. I know a friend who does and I sometimes go into that style but I don't... want to.
