How would you feel if your character can die in an RP setting?
I've actually been in a site where your character can die depending on the results of this mod one of the members created. It's a Suikoden RP site and was based on the idea from the game where characters can pretty much die in war events. It was a long time ago - ten years long time ago and I thought it was really cool. As far as I know, my character almost died xD
After that, I haven't really been in a death-enabled site but I don't think I care that much. I've been in a site where you can kill off your char but that's about it. But usually I keep in mind that my char can die and I think it's part of the thrill and adventure as the rper and for the char's development. I'll be killing them off (as long as it's allowed) if the situation calls for it.
But I'm also aware why others wouldn't like it. I'm curious to see now of sites with death-enabled events just to see how the community would react.

On my site characters can die too, but it is more about the consequence of their deeds than anything else. We don't roll dice or anything. But it is pirates vs Navy, and people die in battles, are caught as spies and hanged, etc.
I wouldn;t like my character to die for bad luck at dice. For a twist in the story, yes. Or to be presumed dead and to appear much later, with a story where he had been since the ship sank.

I'm with Elena on this one. I'd rather have it make sense to the story than just a roll of the die.

I wouldn't mind it so much if I didn't get so emotionally attached to my chars tbh. that, and my character development arcs tend to be painfully long. I'd probably ragequit if a char died over some dice since I can plan the crap out of my plots when I know what I'm doing

I hate death-enabled sites and actively seek not to join them, because I have had experience with the following:
1. Staff members killing off characters just because they don't like the player. 2. Players killing off a character just because they don't like the player. 3. Players killing off characters just because they can and not for any other reason. 4. Every site member being a total, power hungry ass.
Again, this is just what I've unfortunately experienced not even on a personal level, but what I've seen through friends and being a member on such role plays.

I don't want my character's fate to fall to a roll of the dice, but if it's for development and a plot purpose, I'd definitely let my characters fall. I have no problem imagining my charries dead, though I am attached to them and their plots, I also like the growth that they provide.
But giving the admins power to kill off just because? No thankyou.

I think it's best said that if you don't want your character to potentially die in some way (whether by a die roll or an event) then you shouldn't join the site. I don't actively join death-enabled sites but it doesn't bother me, so long as it isn't a combat-orientated site because I suck at trying to roleplay fighting. But if the site's mood is serious then you should expect death to be possible. Not every RP is slice of life and personally, I dislike sites that are set in a post-apocalyptic world or a dystopia but there's no chance of anyone dying. That's unrealistic imo.
But to give an example of sites I like, on BRSW it is death-enabled. It's a post apocalyptic roleplay set in Russia and it's been about 30 - 40 years since the last war between angels and demons on Earth. Since the RP is death-enabled, you might die (which is very uncommon). But if you do die, you are able to remake your character, simply as a ghost (which is a race we have on the board).
Some people who had characters on the previous incarnation of the site simply remade their characters as ghosts if they were too old to be realistically played. So as a ghost while you don't remember everything, your character still has their personality. Idk I feel like this is a redeeming quality since people do get attached to their characters.

I love death-enabled, but only when the site's setting let's me fully appreciate the experience of writing about death too. I've been on sites like these and found them really refreshing.
But if it leads to what Pascaline listed, I'd consider the system a massive failure.

I enjoy killing my characters. Not having them get killed. They will die on my terms, thankyouverymuch.
