there's gonna be someone at some point who will take advantage of having unfettered access and will fuck shit up. not if, but when, especially if your site starts to grow. maybe it's just me, but i can only see an "everyone's equal" concept working in a group that's already small and rather familiar with one another. too many outsiders ruins the equation.

To make this short and sweet... In most cases a site run by "communism" would not work for the very same reason a government wouldn't. One bad egg will spoil the bunch, one stray nuke will demolish the city, one mis-snip will unravel the scarf you have been knitting for ages forcing you to start over from the beginning ... etc.
That is "most cases". In my opinion for a site like that to run properly you need a few things. The first is that you need to market it as such, make sure there are no misconceptions from people going in. The second would be that everyone involved -wants- the "communism" to succeed. The final would be one of three things: a deterrent, an egoistic hook, or a fail-safe.
Honestly, I prefer this to an "authoritarian" site, not because it would be a better alternative, but because I feel as though there is a certain sense of accomplishment that would accompany it. I also favor non-traditional approaches to things... so yeah.

The final would be one of three things: a deterrent, an egoistic hook, or a fail-safe. that's a really interesting concept. what are some examples of each of those for rp or real government? o:

Okay so here's my actual answer. BIG FUCKBOI GAMBINO: ... Because. Anyway, while great in theory, like communism itself is. In practice it doesn't work. While, perhaps in a small friendly setting it might but on a much larger scale I doubt it. Communism never takes account of how corrupt a person can become, and certain people just shouldn't have that kind of power. What if a person doesn't like you, so they delete your character and all your threads? There's so many variables that could go wrong. Its a great idea, don't get me wrong but like actual communism it falls short as it doesn't really include human imperfections. It might work in a close knit, small group of friends though. If this doesn't make sense I apologize I only got like two hours of sleep.

HAH. That would be death to my boards. No way would I ever do that. Even the staff positions I give moderators aren't fully capable of doing everything I can do as an admin. That would be suicide.

OK HERE'S MY POST
just like real communism, the spur to action to throw off the shackles of capitalism staffed sites is the education and awareness of the people. the people must want to be free, and to want to be free they must see the entrapment of their current situation!
it could also never work on a state, or in rp equivalence a "large" site i guess. it could only work in communes/small group rps. but yeah, it could definitely work and i've seen so happen before, kind of.

that's a really interesting concept. what are some examples of each of those for rp or real government? o: Sorry about the late response, blame a certain internet provider. Not naming names. (Hint: Starts with a C).
Off the top of my head, I can't think of any RP sites that employed either three and government isn't something I invest time learning about, too much "politics" if you catch my drift.
However, after investing some additional thought into the topic...
One, perhaps the reason why "communism" (or at least Marxism) is prone to failure is because it is structured around the belief that everyone is "good-natured" or "hard-working". There is no room for negotiation such as the inclusion of a deterrent, a egoistic hook, or a fail safe to prevent potential "saboteurs" because all three oppose that central idea. If you don't mind straying from complete "communism", I believe it is possible for it to succeed when applied to a site.
Two, on second thought a deterrent probably isn't the best idea based on what little I know about South Korea... As for the others, they still seem plausible especially the egoistic hook. An "egoistic hook" is, for lack of a better word, an incentive. If you are one (like myself) that believes people only act if it's in their best interest to do so, it is imperative to appeal how being an upstanding member is "in their best interest". As long as they believe that being a "communist" is good, they will not try to sabotage it.
