So my friend Claus figured out how to unlink accounts from your global proboards account (for everyone using v5) and I thought what she did might be useful to people!
It's probably straightforward but this could help some people so I figured I'd post up what she said anyways.

Alright, my site just upgraded to v5 (because I'm fail and missed the opt-out) and one of the new features links all of your proboards accounts. It only really matters if you use the same e-mail for all seven hundred of your characters... so it applies to almost all of us.
When you log-in for the first time on your newly upgraded v5 forum, it will prompt you to upgrade your account by verifying your e-mail and password. Remember your password the first time you do this. It will be the password required for all subsequent account upgrade verification. What happens is that proboards make a global account for your e-mail on the proboards forum and uses this to link all of your accounts.
For example: I had four accounts on my forum all with the same e-mail (GENERIC@something.com), but different passwords: my admin account, a join npc account with my staff, and two characters.
I logged in with my admin account first so my global account is titled after it and requires that password to log-in. For the sake of examples, let's say the password will be "PURPLEpandas" (which it most certainly is not). This password (PURPLEpandas) is attached to the email not the account, but by forcing all of your other accounts to link to the email it becomes a global password for all of your accounts with that e-mail on the forum.
Now, when I go to log in with the npc account, it asks me to verify the e-mail (GENERIC@something.com) and log in, but the old password won't work because it's looking for the password attached to the email. Follow? I'd have to type in "PURPLEpandas", then it'll give you some generic' thank you for upgrading your accounts are now linked' message.
The next time I go to log in with my admin account or the npc account, I will be met a screen that lets me choose which account I want to log into. It doesn't matter which account I log-in with-- all of the accounts linked to it will show up. If I upgrade my 2 characters attached to the GENERIC@something.com, I will see four options if I log-in with my admin account.
Click the one you want and you're in. Once you're in, there will be three, floating icons and an arrow in the bottom right-hand corner of the browser. These are related to proboards as a whole and not your specific forum. The little symbols allow you to switch accounts, switch forums if you have more than one linked to your global account, and change your global account settings on proboards. There's even a handy little arrow that lets you hide the options if they're in the way! (They really aren't.)
An issue arises when, like me, you have a joint account for staff. I want my moderators to have access to the npc account, but not my admin account and they're linked through the global account via my email. If I simply give them my password, they can get into any of my accounts --admin, joint, or character-- which I'd rather they didn't do.
To fix this, simply click the gear in the floating icons on the bottom-right to go to your global account. Account Settings should be the window that opens up. "Unlink Forum Account" is third from the bottom; you want this one. Click "unlink" to view the options. It lets you choose individual accounts to unlink on specific forums and a new password right then and there.
Unfortunately unlinking accounts seems to be done individually and you'll need a new e-mail when you log-back in with the unlinked account, or the account won't be attached to an e-mail at all.
