I have been meaning to start this thread for a while. I want to know which character-type(s) is/are your favorite to role play. By character-types I mean archetypes ( link), or characters with similar behavioral patterns and/or conflicts. I personally love playing both shy girls who are secretly stronger than even they believe, and characters who seem friendly on the outside but are actually quite sadistic and/or cruel. I have a lot of fun character developing a shy girl into being braver and stronger than she ever realized she could be, and I love exploring the psyche of a character that cannot be trusted. I also love playing stubborn, strong women with interesting character conflicts. I play females in general because I think my males are stupid and unrealistic. Those aren't the only character types I play, but they are my favorite to role play.

all my characters are more or less the same
-pyrrhic victories, internal or external. sacrifices. add them to any character and they get 200% more interesting, guaranteed -social outcast, by far my favorite troupe. if they're self-exiled, that's interesting too -cheerful little girl with a bottomless source of optimism. then i proceed to throw her in every kind of hell imaginable, but she doesn't break. it's more interesting when they don't. -sympathetic villains -witty characters who wallow in a giant pit of ennui and boredom
i guess i used to play a lot of men. my ratio is more balanced now, i like to think

Ha, the type I play is quite far from yours, Pasc xD I don't play girls often, much less shy ones. I play timid characters from time to time but I don't remember it being their dominant trait or overall focus. They have other strong traits over it usually.
I steer away from the strong female type because a lot of people play them and I thought I should try something different. I guess when I play a woman, I always feel like she should be portrayed in a way she isn't often portrayed as. I'm not being a sexist about what a woman's personality should be but I have this notion that's just stuck in me that the role of women in literature either act as a woman or as a woman who has the personality of a man. I want to go somewhere in-between and neutral. So far, I feel like I've only had one or two female chars like that. Went off-topic; I guess I feel like I can get away with playing stereotypes with male chars xD
Anyway, going back on topic, I'm not really sure what my favorite type is because the two I have in mind are a contrast of each other. My favorite types are the loud, comedic, and maybe slightly extreme type, and the understanding, sagely, philosophical type. No, I don't find it easy playing them at the same time. Sometimes, when I switch RPing to the other, I suffer from a slight split personality. But I really love playing them both and making their dialogues.
On the other hand, they're also a bit of each other. When I make people smile and laugh with my funny char's antics, I want to let them know that they're still an individual with problems, complexities, and thoughts. Same with my philosophical char, I want to let readers know that they're still an imperfect human being with flaws no matter how noble and wise they may be.
Writing this, I think I can say I lean on the philosophical type more because of the diversity such chars can offer and play as. It doesn't seem like a lot of people are into playing mature characters who don't need personal drama and angst to develop and can offer intelligent advises to other characters (that would really make them respected IC; it's difficult and pretty pressuring). And this type of good chars is the type that I enjoy throwing in some humanity and experimenting as a villain.
So I see that you think my character is nice? Well then, I'm going to play him/her as a villain then! And vice versa lol. I'd take villainous roles just to put good characters on it with a realistic reason of course. Villains you could sympathize with are the best.
edit: holy shit redox I didn't see your post until I posted this. SYMPATHETIC VILLAINS FTW. edit2: I just saw your sig too. I'm so proud of you, and also of Jin's dating preference.

I don't really know what kind of character I like to play, but I know I don't like playing as super serious characters. lol I've posted with serious characters before and they either do two things: Not move the thread forward because their character is /that/ negative they hate every single living thing on this planet OR...wait, that's about it. lol I'm pretty sure that's a case of low muse/bad rping, though, so duh, not at all serious characters are gunna end up this way. It's just been the case I've been on for a while.
But I guess, based on the character patterns I have(?), I usually RP as girls, though I've been making guys a lot. And they usually have some kinda weird trait to them like split personality, some kinda stupid illness, a super delusion idea, etc.
If I make a serious character, I always give them something lighthearted to balance them out. Mainly for me because I can't handle negative writing. D8 If I make a super positive character, I again give them something negative. For balance. And stuff.

females, exclusively. it's hard though. i find faceclaims to be a big source of inspiration and anime women tend to come in two forms: the wide eyed sweetheart and the stoic, sexy badass. I JUST WANT A FACECLAIM THATS LIKE IN BETWEEN AHHHHHH!!! i used to play the sexy badass but actually my favorite character was a inexperienced older sister type who simultaneously was trying to make other people better while still dealing with her own inferiority issue. i favor action sites in general so i try to make a character that can be a believable action hero, but i like to try to give them a bit of conflict or tragedy. usually they have a mission that they want to do alone, but can't, and end up having to rely on other people to help them and open up. i have a VERY hard time playing villains and it breaks my heart

Hm, for my characters, I try to create them completely different from others that I have or had, past or present. Don't really know how that's working out so far, though. unfortunately, I use the same face claims and names cause I just, idk I like playing older characters instead of younger ones. Can't seem to get into the teenage mode anymore. 8u
I make more males than females; when I do make my females, they are all chibis unusually short (4'7'' was my shortest) and tsundere (sometimes yandere, but I don't make many females so mer). For my males, they're usually perverted, sadistic, plain stupid, and have some type of odd profession/habit/hobby (like being a pyromaniac). They also unusually tall (tallest I've made was 6'8'' and believe me, I mean, people can grow that tall) and are lolicons (have no choice, really). List goes on, but I love role playing these types of characters. Just makes things so fun :3

anything with a disability, whether physical or mental.
but i also absolutely adore characters with deep psychological issues. i have a character right now that essentially validates herself through sex but i also love characters that have bucket loads of self hate. i just really love exploring the mindsets of my characters so you can count on me to have someone that is just all sorts of fucked up (Y)
i also tend to prefer playing females over males but in the end, i'm not too picky. i like to play everything, to be honest, and i have a few characters that don't relate to either gender or see themselves as genderfluid.

I have a couple of favorites (but I like playing pretty much ANYTHING). One of the favorites would be mutes or very quiet characters. I love playing them but it takes a little maneuvering to get them into plots. I never expect other people to carry the thread, so I find ways for my quiet characters to integrate themselves. I have one who is a hitman, for example and the way I get him into threads is to have him shoot people. Haha! Sad part is, he's supposed to be a really good shot. It's the only thing he likes about himself because he has a lisp, has body issues from childhood cancer complications, and dislikes who he is in general. So he loves sniping. Too bad he failed at killing his last two targets. On the flipside, though, I love loud, obnoxious characters, too. They require no thinking to post. Haha! I just let them word barf all over the reply.

asshole men. or they start as almost an asshole, become an asshole, turn into a lovable asshole, AND THEN FALLS INTO DESPAIR BECAUSE I SOMEHOW MANAGED TO KILL OR DESTROY THE GIRL OR DESTROYY HIMMMMM. - ahem -.
backstabbing girls. i'm not sure if they qualify as villains, but- usually she has a strong personality, doesn't have a care about anyone else, and pretends to be everyone's best friend until they tell her ALL YOUR SECRETS. Then she publicly humiliates or backstabs the poor soul. I try to make it a bit more discrete so people will still trust her afterwards though |D

While I loveeee rping the troll, since I have quite a few of those. And jerks. Don't forget the jerks. However I don't think I technically have a favorite 'type'. I have shy characters who I love to play just as much as the troll. Each character just attaches to me like a tumor and that's how they just stay.
