Do you guys have a preferred tense when rping? I know there have been more people out there who are using present tense more. Kirbop was the one who introduced me to rping in present tense. She believed it better establishes an emotional connection with the reader. I agree with this but...I think there are many present-tense posts out there that are turning out to be too forced in emotional delivery. So for those who use present tense in rping, you should be careful not to saturate it with too much feelings.
I looked back to some of my posts before and noticed that I usually end up slipping to present tense during some emotional scenes. I wish I can just use both tenses lol but I it's not grammatically correct. I'm not sure actually as far as I know you can change tenses once in a while as long as you put it in a new paragraph...?

i switch between present and past in the same post bc i don't pay attention and i hate english
so i guess it doesn't really matter i never thought about it
in literary fiction i guess i mostly associate present tense with the kind of books that annoy me, but for some reason that doesn't translate to rp. probably bc y'all aren't writing annoying saccharine novels.

i switch between present and past in the same post bc i don't pay attention and i hate english no but uh in all seriousness i do past tense because my ela teacher drilled it into me but besides that like if you reply to me with present tense, i'll either rapidly start switching between the two in an effort to stay past or give up and go present tense.

i know most (or at least a lot..?) people are more comfortable with third person so i sometimes put an effort into thinking before i type and actually force myself to write past tense. like, i'll write however u want me too.
u want me to write third person, shure homie. u want me to rhyme, sure but u gotta pay me a dime. u want me to write in six sentences, hella yes sure. u want me to write in another language, oui. i'll write however you want me too.
unless i'm your friend bc then you get the fucks i do not give and shitty present tense posts (which is my default since i started writing second person drabbles, oops).

my default is past tense but i usually end up writing whatever tense my rp partner is.
i actually adore present tense but i find it a little awkward to write i guess when i rp. most of my personal stuff is always present tense. it's a lot more expressive imo.

I switch between tenses, and it's my second biggest writing flaw next to abusing commas. I don't know why I do it so often, but after writing a post I always have to go back and correct a tense I've used. For the most part I try to write in present tense when I'm describing actions happening in the present for my character, and past tense for things that already happened in the post. However, I think that my preference is for the past tense in general.

Past tense unless it's a vivid dream or memory that needs a little more immersion.

I'm a past tense default but I don't mind matching my partner.
I actually really like doing mod threads (especially in route-based rps) with present tense (second person) because you can pack a whole lot of description in without using a lot of words.

past tense, third person
and no one causes me to switch to present tense
i will not conform.
never.
though to be serious i use past tense when i'm actually writing posts or stories, but when i cbox rp i just use present tense because you wanna keep them short, want to keep the rp fast paced and w/e so i'll just be like "-walks to the shelf, trying to avoid bumping into people-" in a cbox rp but in a post i'll be like, "she walked to the shelf, side-stepping around people and trying her best not to bump into them."
and yeah as i said, when i post with someone that uses present tense i don't ever end up switching to present.
sometimes in a post, i'll do future?? kinda?? like if i'm doing a fight scene, it'll be something like, "if the man blocked her attack, then she would feint with her left hand. but if the attack connected and stumbled him, she would sweep her leg under his feet to try and knock him over." so it's kind of looking at outcomes?? i guess it's more of a narrative thought process though, but still. in my next post, i'd still mention the exact action the character took, putting it into past.
man i dont even know
