I role play because originally it was an escape, but now it's something I love to do because I can create practically anything and bring it to life. Like a lot of others, writing was a big part of my life. I didn't own a computer that had internet access when I was young, but I used my dad's 1999 PC a lot creating scripts for plays that'll never come to life, stories, fanfictions, poems, dairy entries. I would watch whatever anime I bought from the DvD shelves in stores, remember the lyrics of the opening and ending, write them down and practice singing to them. My imagination was a little wild when I was young and I would create a world for my cousins and me to play in. They would always ask me what roles were what, what the places looked like, what princes and princesses did besides standing around. Lots of things.
When my cousins started to move away and middle school happened, I couldn't share my writing or stories with anyone and kept most of them to myself. When a friend of mine invited me to a .hack roleplay forum and started explaining .hack in general, I fell in love with it. That's when I started to get into video games too, so everything was so fresh and new to me. Originally, I wasn't going to join the site because of things going on with my life, but the bullying and pressure from my parents became too much and I caved in. I didn't have anyone to talk to, I didn't have anyone to be open about, so I turned to roleplaying. I made a character who was bubbly and noisy, who got in trouble a lot, but I didn't care. Later on, I got to know the roleplayers more by msn and one of them was a married women who was pregnant. She was about 6 months into it at the time, but I loved her characters and her art.
She was also the first person I open to wholeheartedly about my life issues. She comforted me and began telling me stories about her life and ones that were made up. She humored me by saying she was a vampire and no one would believe her because those weren't real. I went along with it, questioned if so and so were true and she'll answer. When life finally came and told her it was time to be a mother, we said our farewells and we never heard from each other again. I take her as a role model, I wanted to be someone who helped others and gave advices because many also used roleplaying as an escape to. I've met different people, heard almost every kind of problem, and helped many. I spoke to a lot of members from that forum who were slightly, if not all, older than me by a few years. Apparently, they were all surprised at the time that I was merely under 14 years old from how mature I tend to act.
So, the reason I role play now is to interact with different people and hoping to plot with different kinds of ideas and so on. I love meeting new people and I've met many who wants to go into book publishing business. I also use role playing to practice my writing skills for books that I plan to write in the future, because I know they're not all that great.
