Okay... this coloring usually works well on the majority of image (yay!). While it works well on video game caps and anime images, it looks pretty decent with rl face claims. It brings out several colors and makes the base image brighter. This is my first tutorial so sorry if things don't make sense D; Oh and... don't mind the title... I didn't know what to title this thing. Believe me, I was actually gonna call it shoujo coloring |D Anyway....
* You may have to change some settings around for the picture that you are using. Also, you should have some basic knowledge on the layer styles and modes and all that. c:
In this tutorial, I'll be using this image of
Lightning. This is the
end product. I cropped the image beforehand.
01. Open up your picture. Crop it if you like. I set mine to 400x400
02. Go to layer -> new adjustment layer -> curves
* Just so you know, we'll going to be going back to new adjustment layer many times. c:
Go to the
Red option and make a new point. Set the input to 138 and the output to 131. Make another point on top. Set the input to 203 and the output to 244.
Now go to the
Green option and again make a new point. Set the input to 94 and the output to 74. Make another point. Set the input to 186. Set the output to 209.
Finally, go to the
Blue option. Make three points. Set one point's input to 40 and the output to 56. Set the second point's input to 153 and output 130. Set the third point's input to 200 and the output to 212.
* Change the
opacity of the layer to 20% and set the mode to Screen. See how gorgeous that looks so far? Just kidding! Let's keep going.
03. Go to layer - new adjustment layer and make a new levels layer.
From left to right in RGB mode the settings should be: 0, 1.06, 255 Leave the curves layer at 100% opacity and leave the mode as normal.
04. Go to new adjustment layer and click on Hue/Saturation. TIME TO CRANK UP THE COLOR! Hue/Saturation is a great way to make the colors pop. Leave the hue alone. Set the
saturation to +27 and the lightness to -4. Keep the layer mode normal and keep it at opacity 100%
05. It's time for a selective color layer, yay! Go to layer - new adjustment layer again and click on selective color
Reds:
Cyan -59
Magenta -13
Yellow +9
Black -26
Yellows:
Cyan +9
Magenta +7
Yellow +33
Black -12
Greens:
Cyan +21
Magenta -1
Yellow +1
Black +12
Neutrals:
Cyan +38
Magenta +21
Yellow -8
Black +8
There we go! Keep the layer mode normal and opacity 100%
06. Make another adjustment layer but this one is a Channel Mixer layer.
Output Channel Red:
Red +110
Green -14
Blue -1
Output Channel Green:
Red -18
Green +123
Blue -3
Output Channel Blue:
Red -7
Green +1
Blue +97
Set this channel mixer layer mode to lighten.
07. Make a new photo filter adjustment layer. Instead of using a filter, we're going to be using a color. The color that we'll be using is
9b1dea. Change the density to 25% Now that we have that done, let this layer's mode to
soft light at 25% opacity.
08. ONE LAST LAYER AND THEN WE'RE DONE! Make a new Brightness/Contrast layer. The brightness is set to 1 and the contrast is -18.
Merge all the layers using SHIFT + CTRL + E or by going to layer - merge visible. Whatever works for you~ I sharpened the image by just going to filter - sharpen. Sharpening the image isn't necessary, but I just think it looks nice. c:
There we go! All done! Here are a few more examples of this coloring:

deux ,
troisi have the psd if you want it though bahahah just pm me for it... or something
