I don't believe in activity checks. Staff knows who has not been active and can write them PMs/ e-mails to ask what's up.

I support activity checks. Not super strict ones with massive post quotas cause that's stressful, but more laidback ones where people just post if they're still there, what characters they want to keep or not keep, and that sorta thing...or if there is a post quota, have it be a minor cumulative one for all your characters instead of each one needing to meet it individually.

Kuro, your mom and I need to have a talk with you about activity checks and how Gangnam Style will never have one because many would fail it.
That being said, I only do ACs if the site has canon positions. Otherwise, no point whatsoever, it's just extra work.

Even if there's no canons, I like keeping fc lists (or others depending on the site) updated Plus it helps to lower the risk of seeing a character I want to rp with and they're not actually there

Even if there's no canons, I like keeping fc lists (or others depending on the site) updated Plus it helps to lower the risk of seeing a character I want to rp with and they're not actually there Main reason I do activity checks. I rarely do post quotas, I mostly just say 'hey, go post here if you're still around' and if they don't, delete the account to keep the accounts rather accurate and to free up claims. I never do post quotas because I myself would probably fail them. I mostly just do it to keep FC's and important characters/positions open for people who are actually going to bloody use them. People join, make this awesome app, then disappear off into the distance and it's not really fair for the people who want the claims obviously. Plus my activity checks come with prizes. Not that I send them out on time but to those who I know are going to leave I just don't waste my breath. Main point - If you have canons (Site positions at the least) then I have a activity count really separate towards that? If you're not active for three months, you don't log in, or anything, then obviously I'm not going to keep you until an activity check. You don't answer the PM, whatever. However other times I just wait for an announcement where I can go, 'hey guys, if you're still here, post that you are!' and then that's it. I think those are the easiest and best activity checks to be honest. Everyone wants to play those popular face claims and so getting those cleared up is a good thing- but I don't hold the less popular face claims any less important to be honest.

The thing about BRSW is that there's a pretty strong site plot (that people's own personal plots can figure into or affect in some way) and people's characters get hooked into it one way or another, sometimes right from the get go. So I get why activity checks are important for the site even without having specifically canon spots; if your character is important for this part of the site plot to move forward, it'd be kinda crucial to know whether or not you're actually going to be around for it to happen or if that angle needs to be dropped and replaced with something else.

But why do you need an activity check in order to update the lists? You as staff know who has been active in the last month and who wasn't. It isn't difficult to shoot a PM (a pretty standard one) to those who haven't been active and haven't posted an away notice to ask what's up. And if they don't answer... silence is an answer too. You as a member also know which characters/ writers have been active or not. Because one character might have not been active because he was needed in no story, but the writer was active with other characters, so in that case you can ask the writer for a plot with x character.

Because one character might have not been active because he was needed in no story, but the writer was active with other characters, so in that case you can ask the writer for a plot with x character. mostly for ease, especially for bigger sites. It's super easy for a member to just post a list of their active characters every month or so. And, though I don't doubt an admin knows their members and who they play, its a lot harder/more time consuming/less accurate to mentally keep track of the activity of every character (on top of other admining duties), especially if they aren't active since their name aren't seen as often. It also eliminates a chance for drama (for instance someone could accuse an admin of deleting a more active character but keeping a less active character because -insert petty reason here- which could be, but could also be because it just slipped the admin's mind) I'm pretty much in consensus with most people with the 'post here so i can update lists' but imo, canons should be posting actively regardless of the members activity on the box/with other characters (there is nothing more frustrating for a prospective member me than seeing a canon they i want gathering dust while the player is active on the box/with other characters)
