I started to skin during the breaks of my G.U. gaming marathon and now I'm actually flirting with the idea of making a dot hack site. Unfortunately, it would take a lot of work and dedication and writing, so there would be (eventually) a team of six at least, along with some member-volunteers. \o/ So, ideally, it'll be rather engaging for both staff and members. Also, the setting would be post G.U. If I do make a DH site, would anyone be interested in it? I haven't come up with a plot or anything yet as I'd rather know if there'd be interest before I go too far. XD Otherwise, if there isn't any interest, I'll just showcase this skin (ha ha).

I have to admit, just one person is enough to motivate me to start brainstorming. XD However, if there are any others that are interested, please let me know! I'll likely update this thread with some plot/setting ideas, and maybe a few other things to (hopefully) grab attention? We can definitely do a beta run, too, to work out more of the technical aspects or whatever. ^^ Thanks for replying to this, HADES | ALONE!

Wow! Of course! Should I make a mock site for now while I progressively add in info and work on the skin?? I could PM you guys ( HADES | ALONE & middy♥ ) the link and you could give suggestions? Or whatever it is you want to do, heh heh. Once it's all set, a new board can be made since I imagine this mock to get a little untidy with discussion posts or whatever. ^^;

OK, so it's going to be longer than "just a couple of days." I'm trying to finish the third volume of G.U. (I never actually beat it - T_T I don't want it to end!) while reading up on the BG information. It's stirring up ideas but it'll definitely take a bit to get everything down into words. Right now, I'm thinking that... this will be several decades later. The World was shut down, the A.I.s and other digital information were swiped clean (supposedly), and the whole concept was disbanded for being so dangerous and out of control (it effected the entire network!). In the setting of the board, "The World" would be considered as an antique or classic (collectors would likely bring out their claws and teeth to get at it) and probably was in high demand to resurrect. However, this generation might not even have known about it if it wasn't for someone leaking its information to the web. In today's date, The World would either be entirely new (just opening for the first time in years) or already running for six or twelve months with several servers. The graphics, customisation, and what-not would have been re-rendered to appeal to today's generation (I imagine them to be a lot heavier on technology than was in the past). However, while it's new art and more features, most elements remained to be the same: for one, the battle system is the same, the classes are the same (with the possibility of new ones in the future), the playable characters (beastmen & humans) are the same, the ability to form guilds, PK, and join the arena/tournament (not for the same reasons as when it was initially installed), go on quests, have a leader, and so on are all the same. But most importantly (unbeknownst to the players): The World is still a giant incubator for the "Ultimate A.I." I was thinking that that they would've attempted to swipe Aura clean (along with her "daughter" and other A/V.I.s, including Morganna), however, the original data that the genius Harald Hoerwick (creator of Aura and Fragment [not The World, but if I read correctly, then they were sort of fused together? Which is why there was so much German in the setting]) had was still in Germany. The main HQ would likely be in Germany for that reason, but then they'd branch out to other countries like they had before (but I imagine them to aim for Japan so maybe their HQ would be in Japan again?). However, after all this time, Harald's data is likely corrupted due to age (and possibly negligence?), yet it is still salvageable. The skeleton (which makes his programming revolutionary - even in today's standards) would be good but the cosmetics that made Aura who she was (especially without the synchronised data that she'd have had from The World), would likely be overwritten. Especially by what today's programmers preference (betraying Harald's love for The Key of Twilight). I think this would mean that... instead of Aura, we could have a different entity. It could look like a boy, or, have a different name, et cetera? Or do you think it should stay as the Aura we all know? Anyway, this would mean the essence of Aura and Morganna (and the factors of Morganna - the eight phases), likely still exist. In fact, the "rebirth" of The World is flirting with the concept of the eighth phase: Corbenik, considering that the first phase "killed it." Over time, the game would've gone through each of the phases: 1.) The World "died" (was terminated) soon after Haseo & co. defeated Cubia. 2.) The World "deceived" basically everyone that it was terminated completely when, in fact, there was still a copy of essential data in Germany. 3.) Upon being re-discovered, The World was "propagated" (recreated), even just in essence (rumours) but this eventually turned into the game itself (graphics/programming). 4.) A team of people "machinated" (schemed/planned) on how to deliver this to today's generation, how to advertise it, get it alive and at large again; and... likely something else. (Wiggles brows) 5.) Upon being advertised, The World "tempted" consumers to buy it, play it, and love it. ( 6 - 7 ) You could say that we are technically be starting at 8.) rebirth. I'm not sure how 6 & 7 would be coming into play, but I could think of something. Anyway, I know that's a lot to read! But what do you think of that so far? If this isn't appealing, I definitely could think of something else.

Heh heh, thanks for the feedback. ^^ On a more technical note, would having two official PBs for each character be too much? What I am considering is... Reality is just as important as The World. The World's signature downfall is that it truly effects the real world with the pandemic of comatose players and even the network on a colossal scale. That would mean the player behind the character is just as important as the character. Involving more from the real world might help evoke emotion from members. Pros: 1.)Emotion evoking (possibly) 2.)In-depth character development (the player & the character could be two different people - some people RP on the World! An RP within an RP. (; There would also be players who work for CC Corp in real life (and be co-workers), and others who are amigos and know each other in person as well (et cetera, et cetera).) Cons: 1.) PB hogging. If someone has 5 characters, they'd actually have claimed 10 faces.If someone has 10 characters, they'd have claimed 20 faces; 30 characters would mean 60 faces. It almost makes me want to put up a character cap just to make sure PB hogging isn't an issue if I do go with the two official PBs. 2.) The player PB would be "restricted" in terms of design. for instance, Kusuriuri would be totally acceptable as a character concept in The World, but I can't imagine someone with elf-like ears flying by in the real world. Hair colours (like pink) would be fine in the real world, too, so long as it was dyed and not "natural." (EDIT): 3.) Possibly ignored 4.) "Time-consuming" to update (I personally don't think it's time-consuming, but my team might(?).) What are your thoughts? Should we do two PBs per character or just the traditional 1? P.S. if I can get my hands on a hover mini-profile (I just might force myself to learn it even though I don't really get it ^^; At all.), the big avatar would be of The World's character while the little icon would be of the player behind the character. I hope this makes sense! That's how I envision both claims to take an "active" part. HADES | ALONE, middy♥, & hisaya.

The plot ideas sound fine! I also think having an original AI would be interesting to see. I once tried implementing an AI who everyone thought was a real player, and they were playing like a normal person, but it was revealed they were an AI through plot progression and stuff. Something like that could be neat to see implemented again, or even allowing people to create embodiments of the phases and giving them out in secret to those who have displayed they are active enough. Then again, it requires a lot of dedication and effort their part and a lot of trust in them on your part. I'm not saying it's not doable, and it'd be really fun, but it's just an idea. XD
As for multiple FCs, I am against this. You can inquire things about the real world through the In Game posts. Every time I have seen the real world try to be implemented in a .hack game, it usually goes ignored. It can be mentioned somewhere in the guide threads that your character feels, smells and senses the things in the game as if it were real life. Having too many FCs could be cluttering, time consuming to update the lists all the time, and things like that. I say it could be a "fun" thing, but don't make it mandatory and don't make people claim those FCs.

Looks like the setting so far has been approved of! \o/ I suppose I shall stick with it, then. And, actually, I was thinking about surprising members with a PM about their character being an epitaph candidate. ^^ But, as you said, it'd definitely be dependent on the character's personality and the member's activity so it'd be a little while before that sort of private announcement. Your suggestion about the A.I. is definitely interesting! I was thinking of just an NPC A.I.; however, your I love your idea! You want to play it? XD Ha ha.(Nods) understandable. I won't rule it out for those reasons just yet as there are ways to not make the list cluttered (side-by-side columns, for instance) and updating them would be no different than a standard FC list. My main concern is hogging FCs, and that within itself should probably persuade me to ditch the idea. Nevertheless, I will definitely consider your points and update the cons list. Perhaps this could be a feature in the beta version, and if it really falls out then we would definitely ditch it (boards undergo changes and this one won't be any different). As for making this mandatory? (Laughs) I don't see why the use of PBs should ever be mandatory. Also, there are characters in dot hack whose RL identities are completely unknown - like Zelkova. We don't know what he looks like, what his name is, we don't even know if he's a real person. (; So I would definitely not make this mandatory. I imagine it to be more of a fun, additional feature to those who choose to use it. However, like I said, I'm still debating (so there's a good chance it won't be implemented and a slight chance that it would be). While I'm very curious to see how it'd go, I'm not one to disregard self-restraint. Which is why I asked to have opinions on the matter. Thank you for your input. :3 If anyone else has anything he or she would like to add, please do. ^^

I've decided that I likely won't implement the 2PB feature. The second time I wrote 30 characters = 60PBs, it just doesn't settle well. .-.; (I doubt people would have that many characters, but I do staff on a site where there are a few members with 30+ semi-active characters...) Despite this announcement, if you want to give your input still, please do! Whether it's for or against.

Triple-posting because I'm 'speshul'. (; What if I made two versions of the application (which won't be demanding, I'd like to keep it swift like a typical game's character creation): 1.) would be the official app for character made in The World with it's item inventory - everyone will have to fill this one out and the PB (if used) would be officially claimed, while 2.) would be that (#1) with an additional player app to the side of it (with a field for a free-form app instead of an inventory). However, while the member can give a face to the player, the player's PB would not be officially claimed. Doing both player app alongside the character app would be 100% optional, but the character app is mandatory either way. On that note... does anyone know how I'd implement levels that would automatically update themselves? Like... the money plug-in, just... for levels? XD Or... something. orz
