So the staff and my self are trying to revamp the style of roleplay in our site. We are trying to put more focus on the setting and bring up exciting plots that will allow character's decisions to effect the world and story. But the problem I've noticed is that a lot of our discussion in figuring out a way to push our members are too extreme and will scare away some of our loyal members.
For a while the site has become more of a sandbox type setting. Not only that but because of past influence, quite a few of our members are clinging on to romance and real life type threads which ignores the setting and plots entirely. (Mind you our setting is a post apocalyptic world with zombies, terrorists, and a corrupt government.)
So far we have plans to limit secure areas and create more opportunities for random dangerous encounters in city areas when they where originally limited to the outside areas (which caused some people to only make threads within the city). We also have plans for fun events that have all sorts of end results that are determined by what the players and characters do. However with our member base, likely half will avoid and act as if none of it happen when we want everyone to acknowledge it. These are major events that likely effect everyone in the city.
We had all sorts of suggestions, some way to extreme, others way to passive and some sort of in between but still has a chance of not working and being ignored or scaring away few members. What the staff and I are hoping to get is possible feedback on ways to hold events, pull member's attention towards it, and possibly ways to ease our current members into this new flow of roleplay. Any ideas? Suggestions? Past experiences?

This might sound like an extreme action but remaking the site might be better than revamping it. It sounds like major changes are going to go underway either way, and a different target audience all together?

Thanks Egao, Egao Everywhere! I think it's still a bit to soon to do that but if our big push for events and plot turns don't turn out it might become a bigger option for us to do.

I'm assuming the site you're talking about is Remoor. I think it's a site a lot of people have heard of. Usually, being an old site is what makes a site intimidating, even though being old and popular is supposed to be a good thing lol.

Yeah that would make sense, luckily we still do get new faces coming to our site and some become very loyal members. We also occasionally get returning members too. Though I guess what I'm really talking about is that our new set of staff is really pushing for changes that the site hasen't seen for several years now. I do feel that a good number of our member base, including our new faces, will enjoy the changes we have planned for them. We're just a but nervous about the other few members that seem to favor more slice of life or relationship type roleplay. Though it seems like our best option now is to nudge them into that direction and hope for the best. The site is in desperate need of spicing up, (or so the staff thinks).

honestly, it's hard to cater to all types and roles of people, it's just little done tbh. But I'm a big fan of places that balance both aspects of slice of life.
To be fair, I think it's all about choices. Forcing people into things will make them leave, that's a generally human behaviour. But what you can do, is perhaps try to make the changes appealing from the relationship points of view. Most of the people I know that are addicted to slice of life and relationships, LOVE drama. Angst, and all that other stuff. So suggest to them an attack might, you know, cause some sparks to fly?
Honestly it's difficult to get everyone to stay on the same boat because we're all so different. At worse you'll lose a couple members. But it's all about how you pitch it to be fair. If you give them options to expand their slice of life/relationship, and don't force it as a 'action, pvp, battle' sort of thing, but rather a chance for them to expand onto their relationships... most people would take it.
And if they don't, well, not to be heartless, but they can miss out then.
