GHH another pokemon rp i know but pls hear me out
so i've been on a lot of pokemon sites - many of them with play-able canon characters, regardless of how big of an impact they had in the overall site plot -, and i was always struck with how many of the same canons were played over and over again. but what stood out to me even more than this fact was that there were certain canons that were consistently neglected; yes, someone like red or silver might be really popular and land a good, active rper while gold and platinum get tossed from player to player because people drop inactive, but at the end of the day, they have a significantly higher chance to get that active, dedicated rper because there's so much interest for them in the first place. if you take that same situation and look at canons like crystal or emerald(speaking from experience of 3-4 years, at least), and what are the chances they can even land an rper, active or not? and when they eventually draw the attention of an rper, chances are the interest is as temporary as the time from one activity check to the other. don't even get me started on the sub-canons; the battle factory staff, the gym leaders, etc. if a canon that's deemed either a 'protagonist, sub-protagonist or rival' can't even generate the interest for a stable rper, how can sub-canons even hope to compete?
uh tldr might be at the end idk BUT long story short i started up a site on the premise that I thought would encourage people to pay attention to the 'elusive' canons like crystal and emerald(to name a few, cheren and bianca might be up there too) - the manga adaptation of the games. a book that's written to touch on all of the character's perspectives at least once would serve as the base plot to the site, and members would take turns rping out the characters and rotate out every chapter. basically turn a manga into writing, where the cast of characters would swap out every chapter and each member was encouraged to take on lesser known canons without the responsibility of playing them. auditions would be held to determine the rper of the more 'popular' canons, and staff would have the job of playing the canons that weren't claimed in the end in hopes of conveying how complex even the most insignificant of characters in a game - a pokemon game, no less - can be.
so i never got around to actually opening this site because it never took off? i had a shitty ad/cbox and never got around to interest checking it so that's why this thread's here. i'm not sure if i explained it well enough, but if there's enough interest i'll elaborate/put up a link to it too, if you want you can also ask specific questions. and if not, why is it that these types of sites don't end up taking off as well as well as i feel like they should?
