(not too sure if this is the correct board to post this thread + i'm just really curious about this :> )
How often / when / why / what makes you change your alias? Or do you use the same name for every site?
For example, I've joined a couple of sites using "Shin" and last time I was some other name etc etc etc c:

I used to just go by my main character's name, until finally I used Bunny on a site. Then I figured out there was another Bunny in the community so I changed it to my WoW name, Sifr.
So... I guess I don't change it unless it's taken?

i've used so many different occ names, just because i can't stick with something for a long while. right now, it's either chiasm or prism. prism was taken tho, so i had to changed my name to chiasm. that's probably going to change again, tho. woops.

i've just always gone by kirbop. don't think i've ever bumped into another kirbop + kirby's always awesome, so it's cool. i kinda like keeping the same name too b/c it prevents me from doing things i regret lest it gets associated with this oldass name. and it also keeps me from regretting things i've already done in a way? like yea it's kinda embarrassing that old writing pops up if you google my name, but i've learned to just laugh at it lol

thank you to all of you beautiful people for replying (i didn't expect anyone to reply tbh hehehe) Whoa, that's really cool. I used to use different alias for each site until I decided to stay with Shin but I've just found out that it's already taken ;A; so prolly changing it soon! kirbop I really like what you've said about how it prevents you from doing stuff that you'd regret! I'll keep that in mind *u*

I do it so I can pull one of these numbers:
"Based Bubs AKA King Koopa AKA SuperDuperK!D AKA Bubbles The Pooh AKA AFR0DISIAC AKA UN0RTH0D0X AKA H00PLA AKA Muki D Dooki AKA Mi$taStealYoGurl AKA The Yung Boy Wonder AKA Final Boss AKA Raid Boss AKA Skullkid The Great AKA Vegetarian Beef Patty!!!"
Only on proboard sites though. Because I really don't like to be associated with some people and I rather they forget I ever existed instead of holding some sucka fish ass grudge. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
However, most of that is due to my explosive originality. I guess I just want to be recognized as: "That dude with the crazy ass c-box/OOC name. Yeah, he was a great guy when he wasn't being a dick or stealing my girlfriend."
srry nawt even srry, m4+4.

Post by Jacob on Nov 13, 2014 15:49:51 GMT -8
My actual name is Jacob. Its stark popularity as a male title caused me to grow up knowing many boys who were also that. I have always abhorred diminutives like "Jake" or "Jay"; thus, offline and online matters alike scarcely caused confusion on my part.
Due to being a rather introverted person anyway, I procured a "classical" mindset which drives me to write in a naturally formal fashion. Both my paternal and maternal grandparents encouraged the subject of history upon my siblings, yet I was the sole child to be ensnared. It is for that fact that I derive all character ideas from whatever periods tickle my fancy; they were and are obscure.
As a man who shall be entering his late twenties next year, I usually give my true name wherever I aspire to write at. I prefer the illustrated aesthetic over the realistic when fashioning character representations, but I work with whatever is available. More or less, my presence on either side remains an intermittent thing.
For reasons others have stated above, there are certainly individuals with whom I have poor relations. Reasons vary, but I do not like them uncovering my real identity and following me about. Only a scant number, could I possibly initiate any rightful reconciliation.
Historical fantasy is my favored role-play genre, so a 2012 revision I made to a character caused him to be inspired by the early Baroque; however, he was never intended for realistic settings. Attempts to settle the boy anywhere that retained his play-by proved vain, but I delighted in my display name reflecting Italian figures seen in my research. "Medoro" is currently used for all role-play resource locales I am at; its Japanese semblance makes it prime for those encircling ani-manga and video game-based visuals.

Currently- all my animanga sites I go by varying names of "Neko" etc, etc because it's a pretty common name and if you google it, nothing is actually going to come up. I've gone by other names as well because I know that some people just plain don't like me and I would rather go under the radar. Again, I use pretty generic names because I'm used fading pretty easily in and out of places. Currently I have like eight aliases active.

I tend to pick a name a place. Very rarely do I keep a name across different places, but some examples are Ko, Meimu, Aivee and Teikoku as of late.
Otherwise in all non-rp matters I tend to use PerfectFallacy since it's literally me. (it's the meaning of my first ooc name and my actual rl name put together and it explains a lot of things I am fascinated with.)
IDK I just compulsively change my name. I don't really care about my 'reputation' because if you're shallow enough to judge someone on that, then w/e you ain't worth my time. I have tell-tale signs it's me though, within my naming habits and character make-up usually.
Chances are, there is a chance that we've seen each other since I've been on a lot of sites. lol. That's what I usually tell people.
