I am offering you the real life of the Age of Sail, with plenty of swashbuckling adventures on a
plot driven site going strong since August 2010. We have pirates, privateers, French Navy, British Navy and civilians, groups which are matching your idea of guilds.
You may choose as playby celebrities of any time, place, field (but no drawn ones/ animanga).
Character opportunities abound: we have ships of various allegiances to crew and islands belonging to the French and British crown to populate.
We don't expect you to be a history professor or anything, just to be willing to learn and to keep your character true to the historical circumstances.
For those who are fans of secrets, we have these too; almost nobody is what they seem to be: the tavern owners and barmaids are spying for the pirates, a humble octoroon slave might be a lady in disguise, the former French governor was involved in shady deals with the pirates, the French Rear-Admiral had once a torrid affair with a pirate sailing master, a former privateer captain has killed the previous one in a mutiny…
What we offer: - An original real life site within a historical setting, without fantasy/ magic/ special powers.
- a site
rated PG-13 (L2-S2-V2), so it is not really limiting. In the spirit of those years, mature themes such as sex, violence, abuse exist, without too explicit scenes (fade to black required).
- an intermediate to advanced site, with
help for the newbies provided. Word count is of three phrases, and not everybody has English as mother tongue. (Yes, if you have learnt English in school only, it's a good place to join us and improve the fluency and vocabulary - many of us, including me, have achieved it!). There are people who post 300 words or more, but
without any requirement of matching posts.
- We are medium active (new posts every day, but not in every thread). Activity requirement is posting at least once a week in each thread you have (unless you post an "away" notice - we understand about holidays, exams, etc. and there are solutions to solve these problems through open communication).
- Help with character applications and quick approval
- A wild variety of plots and subplots where everybody can find something to his or her liking
- Extensive information regarding the historical facts – no more torturing the poor Google on your own!
- Special community events and a monthly newsletter focusing on plots, characters and writers.
- A friendly writing community, with friendly and dedicated staff, in a game which has won RPG-U, Distant Fantasies and RPG-D Forum of the Month/ respectively Fortnight and Member's Choice awards, RPG Conference's Originality Award and 2011, 2012 and 2013 Simming Prize (under its various names). The received awards are displayed in the sidebar.
What we are looking for: Dedicated and interested writers, who understand that plot-driving threads have priority over personal, one-to-one threads, and who care about the overall story, not only about their individual characters. Preferably the kind of writers who enjoy communicating and plotting with the others actively.
While we understand that real life comes first, it is also true, that a story-focused roleplaying game is a community project and other writers might desperately wait for
you to post. Therefore, we are looking for writers, who are willing and able to post regularly and say when they need a hiatus.
We have action, we have NPCs you are free to control, we love people with initiative. And
we are not the usual sandboxy RPG, neither a narrative-driven one, but a story-focused writing community where each actively writing characters can make a difference and an impact on the overall plot. We are writing collaboratively a coherent story with many sideplots aside of it.We have ships of various allegiances to crew and islands belonging to the French and British crown to populate.
Men aboard any ship are strongly recommended as first characters, and civilians as secondary ones. No female sailors are allowed as first characters. * * * * *
Peace with Spain was signed in February 1720. In April its news will arrive to the West Indies, so all the Navies will ally against the common foe – pirates, making their
trade more difficult to survive. Which side are you on?
Sharpen your blades, load your guns, drain that last sip of rhum and join our swashbuckling adventures, spreading death
