CODING, TIPS & TRICKS.
idk if this counts as a tutorial but this is also in no way a template tutorial, i honestly don't feel like i'm qualified enough to give one yet (mostly because i'm a horrible teacher lmao), but this is just a list of tips/tricks that i learned during my coding adventures, something that i feel could have jumpstarted my learning of the coding world
idk if this is going to help a lot of people but hopefully it'll help those new to coding
this is written from someone who's never had formal web design classes (yet), so if anything i say is wrong or if there's a better way to do something, please tell me (through PMs because i found that i couldn't reply to any of the other tutorial threads, idk if it was meant to do this or not)
if others can reply to this thread, please do, obviously i need a lot more things to add this with. i'm also not entirely done with this but this is everything i can think of from the top of my head, so i'll add more later
be experimentalidk if anyone would believe me but i've only learned how to use hovers on the start of this month lmao (my gallery was the first hover temp i made). the only way i was able to learn so much about hovers in a short time (at least imo) was through experimentation, as in playing around with the transition delays & the seconds & seeing what it does.
always, always experiment on coding, even if it's not "your style". it helps you figure out what you can do with the tags available.
dissect other templatesthe only way i learned hovers lmao. obviously i don't mean steal other people's templates, but if you see a template's 'effect' that catches your eye, it's not illegal to peer through into someone's code & see the tags they use (unless they say not to). it's also probably a great way to learn because you know how it works as well
learn the limits of codewhen i say limits i mean like how far you can use a code. for example, i've found that you can't use a newclass tag to surround an entire table (i think? pls correct me). you also can't manipulate newclass tags that are outside of it, apparently.
but if you learn the limits, you'll learn how to get around those limitations, which can create a whole lot more possibilities of what you can do.
w3schools is godw3schools is love w3schools is life
edit: like i said, w3schools is god. its colorpicker is god
ALWAYS KEEP A BACKUPif you use as much hovers as i do
ALWAYS
KEEP
A
BACKUP
especially when you've already gotten something down & you feel that relief like "phew i just finished a part of the temp", COPY & PASTE EVERYTHING TO NOTEPAD OR TEXTEDIT, in case you add something in & it fucks EVERYTHING up, and you don't know what happened and it becomes hard to fix it
i've gotten into situations like that waaaaay too many times that it's kind of embarrassing, led to a lot of rage quitting too lol
things i found significantly useful to me (may or may not be useful to you, there are also a lot more tutorials if you're still confused)
- hover crafts by eden - basically how i learned hovers lmao
- clean by Pyxis - not just an amazing temp but also shows how transition-delay works
- can't really remember where i found how to do scrolls but just for reference's sake, you can see how it works at the bottom of my gallery
- code inspo by beekeeper - helps a lot as reference
i'll probably add a lot more when i can remember them
