Hello again! If any of you didn't already know from my intro, I'm working on an ethnography project. So, ya'll seem like a smart group. I noticed a lot of your coding seems very advanced. For those of you who code, how did you learn coding? Do you do it professionally? What about your aliases? Most, if not all of you seem to have one. Are there any reasons any of you chose your particular alias or even have one at all? And final question, are all of you involved in 'roleplay'? Thanks a lot in advance guys.

I learned coding on my own, although my middle school did put everyone through a very basic computer course that taught very, very basic stuff like how to bold and italicize. I started coding after the whole frames boom when CSS was new and iframes were big. That's probably why I'm still sick of scrolly templates, dnw to ever see those.
I have coded professionally once. More often, I've designed professionally and then handed designs off to tech guys, and they did all the dirty work for me.
Katya is what Colossus calls Shadowcat, so I'm just a shipper. I actually just went by my real name (Rachel, subbed with Rory if there's already another Rachel) for RPing until I switched to forums and animanga. Using my real name is actually pretty much an alias for me anyway. My friends call me by nicknames, and I was known by my last name at school.
RPing is basically my only hobby besides videogaming lol.

I'm not much of a coder but what I do know, I know from looking at other people's coding, teaching myself, trying them out myself, etc. I'm still pretty bad at coding. xD
Hummm.... An alias? I guess we all have one. I think it's all part of the fun in role playing. You become another person with an entirely different life than yours so you'd want to choose a different name as well to complete the set.
I think it's also used as a border between real life and internet life. Some people don't want the two meshing together while others couldn't care less. I personally use an alias because I think it's just fun being called something that I chose for myself.
Having an alias, though, means you can get away with a lot of stuff whether for good or bad. On one site, you're some popular guy but on another, you're a shy girl. People can find a certain "thrill" in that; being another person and living multiple different lives. But there are those who use the same alias on every site and can even be known for using that name.
As to why we would use the same alias, it can range from wanting others to recognize you, you might really like that name so you take it before anyone else can, or because you don't have any other options.
I usually use one alias only and that's Gungnir, shortened to Gunny because a lot of people can't say Gungnir. xD I use Gungnir/Gunny only because I've stuck with it for so long that it's become my secondary name.
And last answer: Yes! I am involved with role play. I RP every other day but I always visit a RP site at least a few times a day even if I'm not actually RPing. RP is a community as much as it is a game or a hobby.
Hope that helped! o/
