As a rpier joining a site, how do you feel about battle systems? Do you enjoy having stats, equation, or a specialty that decide the battles? Do you just enjoy freedom of deciding yourself how the battle goes, meaning no stats or system at all?
If you happen to really like and use Battling systems, what do you like about them? How would you prefer them to be set up?
//Is awful setting up these types of threads//

Oh booooy. I personally came from Ayenee( A&E ), so T1's always been my jam. System is simple, it's freeform and what triumphs the most is logic. Length used to be a factor, until people realized how nonsensical it is to type 3 paragraph long post about tying your own shoes. What I've always really appreciated about it is how important details are, because they could use it against other.
Unfortunately, with more people getting introduced to the roleplay community, there are also people who takes their internet ego seriously. Why mention this? Well, I always disliked stats or whatever, but I found out it's an easy way to settle things and avoid the drama, in which case is always more important. It's just a shame we have to fall in line for something lesser just because we can't be bothered to trust each other anymore.

With all these new rpiers coming in, and T1 seemingly obsolete, what is now the best option for rping battle? Math equations, dice rolls, Staff making final judgement, LoZ style with just hearts and mana, or?
The problem I see with staff is that the judgement could become biased in other rpiers view, same with multiple members judging it as well -though less so-.
Math equations require you to take time from the reply and story...
Dice rolls - does the plug work for the post without changing upon refresh/edit? I don't know if I can trust it...
hearts and mana - I guess mana for the character's powers, but you have to choose with the hearts...
Why is this hard?
I guess stats can be used to figure out if your character is faster/stronger/etc then make judgements from that, but wouldn't members place stats in defense to create tanks?

I disagree. It's nowhere near obsolete, the new people just refuse to learn something that's already been proven and tested. It's still far better than the others in my opinion
Staff judgment probably a bad idea since you're practically fishing yourself some drama, though unintentionally.
I'd agree with math, but dice? No. Sure, tabletop games do it all the time, but they at least have elaborate stats to back it up. Normally I'd hate the thought of using stats just so you can measure how competent your character is, but I suppose if you really have no choice and would just like to fall into the conformity, sure. Stats combined dice with should work.

Think it would be a good idea to do the T1 system, then if there's any problems start using other systems? I personally prefer T1, but I never really had problems with letting my opponent win either. Maybe use systems for fighting base events? Rather than the whole site?

That's the gist of it. It all falls down to other people's behavior. As much as I respect a lot of people who uses stats, it's still basically spoon feeding your members with details that's already been chewed for them. I'd rather not insult the community's level of intelligence, so it really, it all falls down to their attitude about it. People are people, and remember that you can't please everyone. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I prefer freeform and communicating with my writing partners to agree on the battle results, tactics, strategy.

I like stats <3 The first real rp site I joined (that is Fairy Tail Bliss) uses stats and it made everything organized.

The main forum I'm on used to have stats- but it became clear pretty soon that no one ever actually used them, they were more for bragging rights than anything since you could buy powerboosts and it was like proof that aw yeah you're rich. It was fun and sometimes useful, but we very, very rarely actually referred to them and in the end getting rid of them made things run smoother. On a forum that actually did something with them? I don't know, it could be fun but I've never done it. I'd probably not like it though, because I like planning things out and not being unable to do something because of stats or other restrictions.

Ahhh I have a love/hate relationship with stats. ;n; Stats can be great for a quick visual guide for members before starting IC fights. I love them a lot for that instead of having to pick through paragraphs to find out "oh, they are fast" when a quick grid could tell me otherwise. The organization is GREAT and I love that so much. But it can get so messy. One of the sites I was on originally had a very simple stat system, but the staff decided to give it a huge complex overhaul after awhile. I think I ended up doing more math on my app than on my math homework that night. n@ It also made fighting others impossible and took the joy out of RPing for me on the site. In the end I think it all depends on the type of RP you have (I know a few I have planned that would really work with stats!), but nothing trumps imagination and creativity. c:
