Okay, gonna first tag Meniph because I know she's in on this idea already. But, we're looking at making a RWBY RP. Problem is, we've got other places we still gotta work on. So we're looking for a few people willing to help out, mostly with apps and the ever-ungodly advertising. We have most if not all of the site's general idea down, and it will be hosted on jcink, no exceptions, cause I can't skin PB to save my life. Of course, we're also looking to see if there's any members interested. We might consider doing a "soft opening" (Meaning, we'll get all the RP areas and the information part done, and we'll open it to members who want in before we've finished the skin) and kinda get some plots going, get a member base ready to go, etc etc. So... Who wants in?

i'd defo consider it. would characters get assigned partners/to teams, or do we get to plot and pick who we get? (if they're open of course)

-raises hand-
I'm the creator of the site Red Like Roses. I can pretty much tell you the problems you will have to conquer.
1. Lack of lore. RWBY is AMAZING, but it does not explain the mechanics of Dust very well, nor of Auras. Monty seems to follow no coherent formula, and this does become a problem with conflict of canon vs site canon at times.
2. Lack of interest. Building teams is actually really HARD. Trying to come up with a build of people that will have to RP together for a long period of time is brutal, more brutal than Soul Eater. Trying to keep the flighty ones from ditching the site is even harder.
3. Limitations on weapon designs. Again. Monty lacks formula.
However, I am more than happy to join this if it happens and I have people who are interested as well.

Monty seems to follow no coherent formula, and this does become a problem with conflict of canon vs site canon at times. i know i'm not even running the site but i have a solution to this, kind of they don't know. all they know is that it's a thing, and the things we already know from the show, and there could be researchers that - as the show progresses and we find more things out - post up articles describing their findings into aura and dust and such. i can't explain things very well but hopefully y'all understand what i'm thinking could work

in a sense? i mean, it's like, we knew night and day happened, didn't realise it was because the earth spun around on its axis while moving around the sun. it wasn't until SCIENCE WAS DONE that we found out that.. yeah
i suck at explanations i'm so sorry

owo/ I'd be interested as well myself, life might get in my way but if I can find the time i'd definitely give it a look at least.
also I like Darkee's idea about the lack of clear dust/aura info. though if it ended up conflicting with already existing events and things that could end up potentially problematic. Seems like one may have to just fill in the holes a bit and pull a 'it's based on not exactly like' or something.

DARKEE In regards to team assignment, I'd planned to have it a choice venture -- either the staff can assign you one, or you can ask other players to join up with you. SIFR From watching the half-episodes, there is some further explanation into their effects, but I plan to do what DARKEE and Kratos suggested -- that is, have some "site canon" lore and depending on what Volume 3 (or further podcasts) explain expand or leave the site lore from there. I like the idea of the "new discovery hurr!" type announcements, though. I'd be curious to hear if you guys have anything in mind to expand that lore. Weapon designs... I don't think that's too limited. pascaline has a point though. Pretty much every damn weapon serves as some sort of gun-like format, except for Jaune, Glinda, presumably Velvet (and Yatsuhashi), portions of CRDL, Ozpin, and Cinder. Yang goes so far as to cheat and have shotgun gauntlets, after all.

"Except for" -Saska then proceeds to cite half the characters- XD Also, teams. How does one fix the problem of the canon stating your teammates are with you for all four years? (This sounds more abrupt than I intended but I'm on a phone and two seconds from driving, I'm sorry. )

By extension over half of the main characters have gun-transforming weapons damnit! xD
As for teammates I'm not sure. I guess theoretically it would depend on what year they're in, but at the same time I feel that's up to the players to work out between themselves, not for the staff to work out. If someone disappears, then so be it -- someone else gets written into that position. If they've got major plots worked out, I'd probably say making them adoptable would be the route to go (particularly if it's member-created teams and not staff-assigned ones).

if someone disappears and thus their character disappears, just say they died. activity checks are grimm hordes. whoever replies survives the horde because they've kept vigilant and avoided death.
also hey having a weapon that's part gun is very useful. having a ranged weapon means that you can use it when you're injured to keep enemies away. by ranged weapon i mean guns or magic (like weiss and cinder, glynda too)
i'm slowly getting more and more excited for this

DARKEE that's entirely a possibility. I'm totally making a template for ACs just for that. EDIT: I also think we should give actual legitimate ways they died, like "died in a random King Taijitsu encounter" or "was eaten by Beowolves on a trip home to visit their family" or something. Obviously it becomes moot if the player comes back, but I think in part that would be both hilarious and character development-y. Since if a character dies, that'll affect their team (and team morale), and subsequently trigger development for the other characters. So people disappearing won't be a total loss. That, or they died in White Fang explosions, who knows. I did expand a bit on Dust already, given they never really explained anything about how the ammunition works. Ex. for example, we see both Ruby and Yang having to switch cartridges for their weapons (which I'd deem "high impact" weapons, because sniper rifle and shotgun respectively) yet we don't really see Blake, Pyrrha, or anybody else having to switch cartridges mid-fight. I'm not using inspiration from my other obsessions, I swear.

Saska yeah, there should be like, an ic announcements board, then within that you'd get announcements from the school about any deaths that have happened, and then you'd have the researchers' announcements in which they detail new dust findings. i'm a sucker for ic announcements k
