So, I know for a fact that I want to do a linear roleplay of some shape or form. I've been tossing around some ideas, but the one that's really stuck is an idea for a zombie apocolypse based linear roleplay. That may change depending on interest in that specific topic, but the basics of how it works, I hope, will remain the same.
ACTS
The idea is that the roleplay will be set-up in what essentially amounts to being free-roam "acts" where they interact with each other, and work for a common goal. The idea for the zombie apocolypse act one would be to have all of the characters converge on a single point be it a shopping mall, or pick-up location.
Each act's win requirement would be different. The first act would have a requirement of x amount of threads need to be done before a character can legitimately reach the goal point. Much like the game Left 4 Dead, there will be certain small events triggered in each thread, with a final "crescendo" event once all characters have reached the end goal (though it will be split up into manageable groups so things don't get confusing).
ACTIVITY
The main concern about a linear rp is getting the plot moving in a reasonable amount of time. To encourage a swift moving plot there will be a soft cap on the word count of a post. Essentially, it will be encouraged to have short posts closer to 100 words per.
I'm hesitant to say that a person must post in x amount of days or else they're kicked out, but with a low word count (and the option to notify of leaves of absences, or needs for more time) it wouldn't be much of a hinderance or issue.
CHARACTERS
The idea is that a user can only have one character at any given time, and that if that character dies, then it results in perma-death. Of course, if a character does suffer perma-death, then the user is then allowed to create a new character, and integrate them into the roleplay as a new survivor who just showed up.
However, character death won't be thrown around willy-nilly. I recognize people get attached to characters, and there will be the option to either have your character have a lower death chance than others. Still, to keep things realistic, there will always be a very real possibility of your character dying.
CLASSES
I'm tentatively thinking about having some sort of class system where you can pick a character to be a civilian, CDC worker, cop, etc. and have them have extra bonuses based on that "class" ex. a civilian would have only one weapon, and a low chance at having a gun whereas a cop is garunteed a gun, bullet proof vest, etc. It's still in the works, and I'd like feedback on whether I should expand on this sort of system or scrap it all together.
REALISMVS. POWERS
Now, with the idea of having a linear zombie idea, I'm leaning towards having realism and no powers or enhanced humans whatsoever, but I also think it might be interesting to have a mechanic where users can roll to see if their character contracted a mutated version of the virus that resulted in enhanced physiology or some such.
Or would anyone in general be interested in a linear roleplay focusing on powers, because right now I could really go for realistic zombie or superpowers. I've also got less fleshed out plot ideas for superpower-centric rps or maybe even something with a sci-fi twist on a space station/colony. If you're interested in hearing me babble on about that feel free to ask.
So any interest, opinions, or suggestions?
