So, around Christmas, I got to thinking about the current trends in the RP community and the situations it faces. Since about 2009, the community has started to be plagued by this irritating little parasite we like to call "post-secondary education". The symptoms are as follows: lack of time, lack of muse, spiked activity around vacation times from school, lack of focus. if you are experiencing any of these symptoms, please consult your admin.
So, around New Years, as Ginger can attest to, I started thinking of how to address this phase in the life of the RP community, and I thought back to the old days, around 2001, 2002. Neopets and Gaia Online RP was HUGE. It required no setup- you made a thread, made a post with information about the thread's theme, and went. No plot pages, no profiles, just trust in your fellow RPers that they weren't major scrubs, and patience to teach those who were major scrubs.
No setting up a board. No huge work into a character. No dependence on other people's schedules.
Go in a thread on your own time, and roleplay.
I'd like to recreate that experience.
But Sifr, it's fun to make sites! I can make them look pretty!
Yes dear, but if you don't have the time to run it, it'll go up in flames the next time you get that final you have to study for. No one said you couldn't make premades and take commissions for others, I just want to provide a place to RP for the chrono-challenged.
Sifr, hasn't this idea been done at X?
Probably. Doesn't stop other communities from making a billion copies of each other. If you suddenly just got a shooting feeling of guilt, yes, I'm probably looking at you.
Sifr, Gangnam Style has a freeform RP section, why not use that?
This is actually a good question. Gangnam Style has options for other mediums, but what it seems to specialize in is templates and creating an advertising/connecting medium for the RP community. I want to make a site with a specialization. It will be run in a similar manner to a resource board, right down to paid advertising, however that paid advertising will be for threads, not websites (unless maybe a little banner somewhere idek yet). There will also be options to make subboards for threads that become huge, for onsite points as well.
So, is anyone interested in this? Is anyone interested in modding alongside me? Heck, is anyone interested in me providing some kind of service so I don't have to skin the bloody thing? Anyone have questions or input? I'd love a discussion.
