made a post about my hankering for a site inspired by spirited away or princess mononoke, and that desire has only festered after being in kyoto the past week. so i've got a pretty good grasp on what sort of plot i'd use - a major theme being spirits reacting poorly to the spread of human industrialization - but unsure as to the setting. thinking of setting the site in either the edo period (1603-1852, shogunate is at the height of its power, japan is probably at its strongest since its foundation), the bakumatsu period (1853-1867, shogunate is forced to open up to the west with chaotic results) or the meiji period (1868-1912, japan modernizes and grows in leaps and bounds). lot of inspiration from amatsuki and otome yokai zakuro with this, as well as the aforementioned sources. so, two questions for you all.
1) are you at all interested in a historical spirits site like this?
2) if so, which of the periods above most appeals to you?

Bakumatsu kinda intrigues me because of the clash of cultures. I've learned so many things by living in China, but watching the interaction of new forigners coming in and seeing how China really is always amuses me.

Ohhh, sounds interesting! All three settings sound nice but I would say either Meiji or Bakumatsu to fit the theme you're going for (just judging from the small descriptions you gave on each).
Good luck with the site by the way. (^ ^)
