I've always wanted to make a Sword Art Online RP, since I've always been in love with the show. However, I barely put things together, but do have an idea of the way it's stat system works. Unfortunately, it's hard to see an RP go on like this without cases of god-modding, and so on. Bash me if you want, but there will most likely be competition, deaths of characters, and so on in the RP. It's main key genre overall is action and suspense. The site will be using a stat system and it does have it's up's and downs. It would be awesome too if you all could provide tips.
So, I've wanted the site to be more rapid-fire, with quality over quantity posts. And then there would be a huge list of skills: Parry, evasion, athletics, sprint, and so on. So out of the list of skills given, the player should pick NINE skills to keep (weapon skill is a must), no more or less. They start with two skill points at first to allocate wherever on their stats list they see fit. Each skill will start off with 0 skill points, with a maximum of thirty to achieve the grandmaster level. So basically, to achieve rank one, it will cost two skill points. And by each rank you climb up, the price for each rank will increase by two. However, there are some skills which have a one time price of six or more points, and also extra skills which you may obtain from quests and so on.
The way you earn COL is really simple, actually. For EACH page of RP (20 posts), the player is awarded 400 COL. However, if there are other players participating in the thread, they will need to split the COL and loot. COL can also be earned through professions and sitewide events.
Now for weaponry and armor. A player starts with a minimum of one damage. If they invest more skill points into their main weapon skill, they can add those damage points over their base of 1 damage. Things such as weapon upgrades and temporary item aids can boost those levels when most needed.
Next, we'll be putting a dice system in use for combat. So there will be a total of three dices! The first one will be used for combat, a 1d10 dice. On a roll of one to five, the attack will be a miss. From anywhere ranging six to eight will be a hit! So whatever damage they can deal normally, they deal. On a roll of nine, it's considered a critical. And so, it's 1 + your regular damage range. On a 10, HYPER CRITICAL! So it's 2 + damage range.
Then there's the loot dice, still in works.
Lastly, there's the crafting dice, 1d12. So this is how players can craft , cook, and tailor items to sell to players. So, in a similar way lie the dices above, they can fail or perfect a craft they've been working on. If possible, they may salvage the materials to start over. The items they craft hold these things known as enchantments. To give you an idea, performers can craft grenades useful to either distract or even calm monsters. Cooks can create food that allows you to strike for higher damage, useful in boss battles and sticky situations. Blacksmith's can create you blades, and I need to make a list of the enchantments they can apply to them. There's alchemists who make potions for RP fodder just for laughs, and even serious stuff like battle aids and so on. But really, they all need to work together to survive.
Now THIS IS GONNA BE NEW TO YOU GUYS, but solo roleplaying IS allowed. Because there are going to be solo players around, and players who want some alone time after some harsh character development. Not only that, it's useful for leveling up, performing quests, and so on. It's not fun to solo RP all the time though, but it could be important for benchmarks and certain quests that require absolute attention. Sometimes, their partners take 5ever to reply and they need levels. It's competitive, and sadly... things like this do happen. Also, I've been on a site with the solo RP feature before, and people surprisingly got in about 50 or less QUALITY posts, for the sake of character development and arc fillers if they wanted to create a little story starring them.
So there will be boss raids every now and then, and the strongest/players who might actually make it are teamed up together to beat the beast. They have little squads around the monster who take turns attacking the foe, then there's the vanguard who acts like the shield of the group, possibly mitigating the damage dealt to their allies. Then there are a few who watch from afar, seeing who's low on health and offering quick healing aids and antidotes to the paralyzed. Dring these times, if your HP drops to zero, you WILL die, and your character will be added to the deceased membergroup. During those times, you are allowed to close up all RP's with other's before laying the character to rest. You then may focus on another character of yours to roleplay.
However, there's all types of characters. Some don't like being alone, and prefer being in groups or one on one advancing beside another player. And really, the game's experience is what you make it to be. Just because there is a heavy system to the site, it's totally fine to just focus on the plotting aspect of everything. There will be other's who are fighting for the will of Aincrad, nd some just chilling out. It's your story, so write it like you're in their shoes!
I'd love to hear all your opinions. So yeah, the site will have it's pro and cons, but I'm hoping to sort it all out with your guys's advice. Truthfully, I've never ran a site myself, usually I just play the role of a member
