I'm no longer admining, ever, which means I have to actually find a site if I want to RP. Thing is, I'm an S-class affiliate hopper and I can't find anything because I am super duper picky.
I don't know what I'm after either which is what makes this even harder. But here we go?
- Something historical. Am I seriously the only one in the entire animanga rp community who loves historical sites? Because I don't seem to see any around D8 any history is fine although I do have a preference for East Asia and medieval Europe.
- I don't like sites with a heavy fantasy overtone. Nothing like Flight of Fantasy or Myth No More, I prefer a fantasy that feels more subtle and integrated in to the world (I'm not saying those sites aren't like that, but I don't like having the fantasy aspect pushed in my face).
- I don't do fandom (with very very few exceptions) or high school. No 'based in x universe' or 'canon y fandom', at all.
- I prefer open settings where I don't have to do too much reading in terms of plot. I'd prefer a lighter skinned site because yes this does influence me shut up. Slash friendly is a must. I'd like a newer site too because established ones intimidate the fuck out of me.
Is there anything out there that can satisfy picky me? D8
EDITING FOR CLARITY! - supernatural counts as fantasy and I don't want it, go away.
- I like magical realism! Murakami etc. If the non-real aspects of your site are its main draw I don't want any of it.
- Wonderfully built settings are my favourite. Slice of life is also my favourite. Sometimes, I dabble in crime and that's pretty swell too.

Phanta is probably the closest you'll get, but it's got relatively heavy fantasy too. Historical just doesn't seem that popular in animanga anymore for some reason. Does it have to be animanga? I'm not familiar with RL sites, but I'm sure you'll probably have more luck outside of our niche community here.

I made phanta with Owari with a Jane Austen and Tim Burton vibe in mind, if that floats your boat. Monet and Renoir paintings and the entire impressionist movement had a big influence after i took a class in that. You could get along fine in it without really even reading the plot or the setting right now, so long as you understand it isn't a modern but Victorian setting, because our ship hasn't gotten far enough for the real fantasy elements to take affect. (If you want to know more about the monsters in the mirror's legend, you can breeze through some of the info.) It's 1860s england, pretty much. The town looks like Sophie Hatter's hometown, or the town in professor layton. we have a dark skin, but pianissimo is a whizz.
In the end we're just a small town rp, and no one has gotten far enough to play the monster class yet. our fantasy is way more subtle than kat let's on, and we have no real money system integrated into post count that heavy fantasy rps use. its a pretty solid sandbox right now. the supernatural plot will begin when the people finish their death threads, which hasn't happened yet |D
Your welcome at our site! I will make a character for you and we can have a story c: i don't know if you're down because i know you've heard of my site before, but i've been wanting to make a detective using alaude fc. we could make a slash plot out of it?

this is going to sound really really awful, but the one thing that's turning me off joining is the skin x: you're right that i know about it! but the skin has always lagged on my super slow connection and i find it hard to read D8 i'm sorry there are certain things i simply won't compromise on and if i find a site difficult to read i won't join it. my eyes are already bad enough from sitting online all day xD

apparently kat is a lady so i will just shamelessly plug HIDDEN in her place. not historical but look at dat pretty light skin! that sandbox world with no real overarching plot! the lack of fandom! it is pretty fantasy-based, but it's a modern day AU as well where you can play non-magic types and the supernatural is a secret so it isn't like there's going to be people teleporting and flying all over manhattan. i also second kat's idea that you'll have more luck with rl sites, but in my experience rl sites also tend to die at an even quicker rate than animanga (unbelievable ikr) i've only found about one in 4 years of stalking rp communities that wasn't on livejournal and lasted more than a few months.

I've seen/know of the site but it's also not really my thing x: i'm going to post why only so like people can understand what i'm exactly after? i'm super picky but once i've found the right site for me i tend to stick to it so that makes up for it a little maybe.
- the myo and setting aren't my gig. i don't have the slightest idea about nyc, or what the areas are or what they should be like, and the lack of board descriptions is honestly a huge turn-off. i don't know any of the places except for the mentions they get in movies, and since the biggest draw to me is a site's setting i already feel a disconnect. i'm also not super-fond of sites set in america but that's because i can't really relate to the setting as well as i feel i can with a made up one.
- when i say subtle fantasy i guess what i really mean is more of a magic realism vibe than a downright supernatural one x: like the way murakami writes such beautifully integrated fantasy in to his japan rather than 'supernatural creatures in hiding'. even though the creatures are meant to be hidden, it still feels as though they're being pushed front and centre and again, not really the style i'm comfortable with.
- i mentioned this in the other thread but the cbox expand/collapse appears to be broken on chrome (at least it is for me), static boxes are a turn off and i'm such a skinning snob i don't join sites with skins that don't work for me x:
i know i probably come across as horrible and awful and picky orz so it's probably obvious why i haven't found a home yet! xD i have actually looked at IRL sites but again, they're not what i'm in to - i will admit i haven't dug too deep, but they seem to be all about the glitz and the glam and the photoshoped models and the high celeb life and partying even if it's meant to be set in a small town.
tl;dr i'm too picky.

yeah i know what you mean about rl sites |||||| there is one rl site i know if that's still active and not really about the model scene, but again it's an overt supernatural fantasy site so that doesn't seem like your thing, and besides that the only kind of rl sites there seem to be are the harry potter rl ones which idk. idk man. you might you might have to make your own or never rp again maybe you could try looking off proboards/jcink/invisionfree? are you really dead set on rping on those forums?

i'm never making my own site again and i have actually been looking for a home since october of last year so I AM PATIENT, I WILL WAIT LONGER IF I HAVE TO!
i um. i affiliate-hop a lot, which means i also see sites off pb/ipb. i actually was a member of a self-hosted site once - the community was really hard to get in to and posts were minimum 5000 words. i left shortly after. they also tend to have awful layouts and i know i know, layout shouldn't take away from the writing but i'm a very visual person and i need a pretty site to look at.

> minimum 5000 words why omfg livejournal rp is even more dead in the water than proboards iirc tumblr is impossible for me to rp on, but if you think you might be happy with it i see loads of tumblr rps in all my tracked tags >> twitter? ? i know a lot of people rp on twitter a bunch of my friends and i used to rp over irc, but that was more of a pre-established group thing, and obvs there was no site or posts...

I have two solutions for you, depending on how long you're willing to wait.

What about trying something that is not human? Perhaps animals may be more something to look into? In my experience they are so much more relaxing.
