I've never heard of CAS (not a US citizen but still a poor excuse) but it seems to be an anti-piracy system, designed to stop FILE SHARING. I assume this is related to torrents and downloading of common pirated products such as movies, music and video games. I don't really think it has anything to do with saving graphics into your computer , editing it and whatsoever because it's trying to address a common problem that has bankrupted many multimedia companies. Otherwise, CAS would also be affecting fanfiction and rp sites so I think you could relax about it. Unless you've been downloading free music from the Internet without buying an original copy of the product, then yeah, you can panic (that IS illegal though. Piracy is just as much as robbery and stealing.)
I guess the term "copyright" is misleading to us who are more conscious of the term because of our constant use of graphics and trademarked materials for roleplaying.

Pretty sure graphics and manips from fanart (and fanart and fanworks in general) comes under fair use of copyrighted material, so there really isn't much to worry about on that end. Ofc if people start getting cease and disist letters they should stop, but it's a completely different bag of worms to something like, say, scanlation or sub distribution when there's already licensed versions available. And then trying to profit from it. I'm not a lawyer tho, and depressed Paddy has been rejected from law school twice, so I could be wrong with my interpretation. But imean... companies'll sent cease-and-desists before taking any legal action, and I think people need to remember that things like this are put forward by companies and not creators - they're concerned about profit and not artistic integrity. And the ones you really need to worry about in terms of fanart images etc. are the creators and their wishes.
