Which role do you prefer
I've played all roles in mmo wow in the past. I was primarily DPS because I wanted to be an elemental shaman for pve back when ES was primarily for pvp. Then I shifted to healer from time to time and made a troll warrior as a tank, because I love trolls. I think I enjoyed tanking and healer roles better and healer role is the best for me. It's exciting and challenging. I have a friend who likes being the healer so she could be protected but I want it so that I can save people's ass when they screw up. But usually when there's an excess of healers out there already, I'd probably go tank no problem either. I like the leading role.

People protect the healer? I wanna live in your friend's world. Usually I get hung out to dry. (Disclaimer: I often play with my friends, who'd probably stop playing with me if I couldn't take care of myself.)
I played classic WoW. My main was a rogue, and I did well in PvP and PvE. For anyone familiar with rogues, I ran a hemo rogue for the PvP stunlock advantage, which my PvE guild was thankfully 100% okay with since we had space for the hemo debuff. I lucked out. I had an alt healbot priest that I would've liked to make my main, but I was in a bizarro guild with too many healers and not enough quality dps. By the time TBC came out, I was basically the best-geared rogue on the server horde-side, so I couldn't exactly retire to healing without feeling really bad.
These days I just like having CC, team synergy, and a kit that can respond to most situations. Tactical decision-making is probably what I'm best at, so I like having a lot of tools to work with. If that means I'm super squishy or I do no damage, I'm okay with that.

this comment won't make sense once you change your sig but oh well "orz
uhh back on topic
usually i play healer? my mmo experience is actually just ragnarok online (fs priest!), but if i play multiplayer games with friends, i usually take the healer role too. i guess i just like supporting the team from the sidelines and managing health bars and keeping up buffs and such! it was just tough in ragnarok sometimes 'cause depending on party set-up you might not be getting exp or loot but ;; healer's usually my main regardless!

i like to heal/support but i also like mages cuz shit is flashy as fuck. the more spells the better.
but if they have a scythe wielding or animal tamer/summoning class or like... wild person class. i'm all over that. that's my favorite thing in games omg

I like to play tank to be honest- but since I play with my friends- and they like playing long ranged/healers, I always protect them- so ...I think I've always played tank. Last time I played rogue to change things up and I just wanted to go in and spam buttons. ;;

I played a lot of MMOs, but the ones I stayed on are RO and LOTRO.
I always had a soft spot for mages, so I usually stuck on that class, but generally my preferred role is DPS regardless if it's ranged or melee. I don't know, usually it's because I like to cause utter destruction in RPGs lol. And when it's melee, I like hitting hard and fast and in D&D I like being the trap guy sometimes hence the rogue choice.
Sometimes I'm assigned the healer role with my friends though, because it really is a hard role to use and I'm one of the guys who can deal with people running around like headless chickens in our group. I can't do tanks though, I hate dealing with a slow character even if he hits strong. :c
