Text emotes are something me and bracketed have often talked about. There are text emotes that simply get on our nerves because of the meaning it has on us. They're kind of like a part of the online language, and they're not bound by nationality either. How do you perceive text emotes? How often do you use them?
I know I used to use the eye emote a lot in the past. Maybe that's why they've come childish to use for me now. o.o used to be a confused look to me but now it feels more like a stare that's like "the hell are you talking about?" The ^_^ has become very creepy to me now too. bracketed used that a long time ago hehehehe
I got for more neutral ones nowadays like xD and if I really want to express how shitty I feel, orz or OTZ is how I go. <3 really makes me cringe; I don't think I've ever really used it in my entire life lol. I guess if I want to be affectionate, I just express it in plain words.
I don't like the usual smiley face of :). Makes me feel like I'm being underestimated. Like that smile that's just trying to look friendly but is actually annoyed with you.
=3 looks like a dick to me.
All Japanese text emotes though are really cool. ヘ( ̄ω ̄ヘ)
But if used excessively, I may just kill someone.

a friend and i use ^___________^ to each other facetiously i use :> uwu and uvu a lot oops. i'm too lazy to google and then copy/paste japanese smileys so people are generally spared them when talking to me. most of the time i'm using <33333 it's as an over the top joke but sometimes i'll just use it to express support/affection when i don't really have anything else to say.

i used to use xD and XD all the time but now that's just...no. i don't like that emote anymore. D: im sorry.
as you can see tho i use ones like D:, c:, (:, 8I, 8'I, /:, etc
i dont know why it just helps me convey emotion. and if im talking to someone lightheartedly and no emoticons are being used, i think that theyre mad or something. also if they use tons of punctuation.
usually im too lazy but sometimes i'll look up japanese emoticons. i even bought a stupid japanese emoticon app for my phone (which makes it a lot easier to use it there versus on the actual computer)

Same boat on the XD thing. I used to use it a lot too, but for some reason, I don't try to convey as much amusement as I used to. If I really have to though, it's usually in the form of 'lol's and 'haha's +variants of however you can laugh on the internet in letters/words.
I still use c: a lot and uwu / owo / ono / ;n; / ;o; ++ I get all awkward without them sometimes. I feel like I'm being too stiff since I rarely ever type without punctuation/capitalizing properly. It depends on my mood though.
I'll look up Japanese emoticons when I feel like it can't be helped. I swear, there are times when what I have to say CALLS FOR IT, like I am not allowed to post it without a proper Japanese emoticon to punctuate my statement. If I need to flip a table because FEELINGS, I will flip that table. Through an emote. It doesn't happen often/all the time though.

I use 'em whenever. I probably would use all of them at some point in time? But none of the emotes have special meanings to me other than ^^ or ^_^ because people I didn't get along with would use those emotes on me and I'd be like, "WATCHU SMILING AT ME FOR PONK? " lolol /shot We're all coo' now. |D

I normally use ^^, ^^;, :x, , :\, ._. Occasionally xD being synonymous with lol. The only times I use japanese emotes are if I'm texting since there's a whole list of them on the iPhone when you use any asian keyboard--when I bother to scroll through for one I like that is. I used to use T_T a lot but now I avoid them like the plague since I feel like I'm the only person who doesn't see it as a crying face but as an apathetic/annoyed one and get paranoid about others misinterpreting. The only reason I found out was cause the one time I tried going in a site's IC cbox I used it and everyone got weirded out cause it was such an out of character expression ._.

I use XD instead of lol because... lol makes me feel awkward? idk why. I like ^^' when I'm embarrased, idk if anyone else uses that. and I'll use ;_; and >.< quite a bit. Um. feels like a creeper face to me, it scares the crap out of me when someone uses it in a text. I'm weird and use which is a habit I need to break but I've yet to figure out anything to replace it that feels the same to me so if someone could help I would be grateful

I used to use |D but it wore off me. Kind of seems more...rude to me now. It sort of means like "hehehe I know I'm doing it wrong but OH WELL."
I'm still gonna use xD >:C it's the only happy emote I really use. Don't take the smile away from me.
