i39.tinypic.com/huoqwi.pngExcuse my terrible writing. This is sadly, one of the screenshots I have always wanted to capture. but srsly, why. I know, some people have a lot of chars, but if they have that many and are logging in consistently, I'm gonna assume there's at least a few really active members that = like 10 normal people who usually use one or two chars. That's all a site really needs to keep going. I can't imagine someone would have enough drive to log into 20+ accounts if they're not doing anything with them... even then, they can always look at the recent post thing (if the rp boards aren't locked to guests which most people don't seem to do anyway). Or assume that if people are chatting in the cbox, it's not dead. And it's always great when big, all caps messages right in the cbox are ignored >> am I the only person who gets annoyed when people ask that on sites that are obv still going? xD

I usually get annoyed when it clearly IS NOT active.
Like, been dead for months.

It's rude to ask a site's activity, be it a site that's clearly active or not. Roleplayers shouldn't ask them at all and just check the active topics and any latest news. If they really insist, they should reword their question into something more subtle like, "Everyone busy lately?" It's a given to speak courteously.

If they really insist, they should reword their question into something more subtle like, "Everyone busy lately?" It's a given to speak courteously. Ah but you forget, people - more often than not in my experience anyway - tend to not understand what's rude and what's not these days. Granted, there are some exceptions, but more often than not, people think of themselves first and everyone else as an afterthought, if at all, especially if the other people are complete strangers.
I mean, I get it, you want an active RP site. But if there are that many members logging in daily and the cbox with that much activity and actual RP posts in the most recent posts list, really, the question has been answered for you. Of course, sometimes I think people think it beneath them to actually read something that's not an reply to them, so it's not as if that would have made too much of a difference
Still though, that definitely could have been worded better. Even just "Is anyone here?" is a better thing to say than asking if the site is active by that point. It's obviously active. Of course, if the cbox is moving, that's just a dumb question too.
So really, if the person had put the time in to think about it, they would've come to these conclusions themselves. Instead, they asked the question, and then got this nice thread with rants about it and making themselves look rather stupid.
Wow though that got wordy. >.>' Sorry, rudeness and lack of respect for others tends to be one of my pet peeves. I'll just crawl off and leave things be now

Personally I dislike it when people ask if a site is active or if anyone's active for two reasons:
1. The answer can easily be found by simply taking a look, and
2. Should they ask that question during that time gap where most of the members aren't able to get on - and most active sites have that one time of day where no one is on - and another guest stumbles by and sees that question is asked and wasn't replied to, then they're going to pass over the site without doing their homework, too. Essentially it's a question with an easy answer, but it has a lot of negative draw backs.
And honestly, on The Blue I had a code where the most recent posts were displayed in a table above the forums and people still asked me if the site was active in the cbox OTL
I know there are technically no stupid questions, but c'mon, the answer is right in front of you half the time.

Seriously - you look blind when you ask if sites are active when there are 15 accounts in the past 24 hours. Open your eyes, jeez.

Holy crap this happened to me yesterday. Some idjit asked if one of the sites I'm on was dead when there were posts in the cbox within the past twenty-four hours and people with accounts logged during that time.
And when the main admin and I were confused and gave the ._. look since it was so random and inappropriate, they got offended.
I don't know whether to laugh or facepalm.
