!! DISCLAIMER !!
I want to start off by saying I know there are, or were, a few sites around that focus on a dreaming or sleep concept but this idea of mine was not in any way ripped from them, or stolen. I suppose one could say it's a coincidence. Ironically enough, I had a dream about this some long time ago, with which everything else was drawn from. Uh, what else, I guess if some people show interest I can get around to trying to make it happen, as my last project failed before it started, but if not it can just go back to where it was collecting dust. c:
In a seemingly modern world, life appears to be normal. The general populace wakes up in the morning, gets ready for school or work and goes about their lives. They don’t know that something goes bump in the night. They don’t know that their fears feed them. When a person sleeps, they dream countless things. Some remember their dreams, some don’t. In this world, there is a veil between the waking world and the sleeping. The Dreamscape is a real place made of good, indifferent and bad dreams. These bad dreams, called Nightmares, can and will break free of the Dreamscape.
In the beginning, creatures that mankind couldn’t explain were written off as myths, this was untrue. These monstrous, and sometimes mysterious, creatures were Nightmares. Things created by peoples’ fear. To combat this threat, an order of mystics came together to create a doorway into the Dreamscape, where they believed these monsters came from. In this new realm, the mystics dreamed up weapons that could slay the Nightmares. These warriors became known as Dreamers.
They stayed in secret, recruiting believers and training them in their arts. However, only a fraction of those recruits could actually touch the Dreamscape. Those that couldn’t were trained in other ways that could be of use. As time past, The Order found new people with new abilities. Initially, four Dreamers needed to be present to sent a fifth Dreamer into the Dreamscape but people were found that could enter the Dreamscape unaided. These became known as Dreamwalkers. This magickal evolution went so far as Daydreamers, Dreamers that could construct their own weapons without needing to enter the Dreamscape.
However, these times did not last.
The Knightmare, a powerful and sentient Nightmare broke free. It wreaked so much havoc across the world. It could destroy a person by amplifying their fears and turn them into Nightmares. What was even worse, the Knightmare could corrupt a Dreamer, turning them to the darkness. It took all of the Order’s strongest Daydreamers to beat back the dark beast and seal the Knightmare within the Dreamscape, with them trapped inside too.
Though the Order praised their fallen brethren for ending the dark threat, there was a downside. The seal placed upon the Dreamscape cut all others off from it. Without its influence on the world, less and less Dreamers were born. Weapons and equipment made by Dreamers lost their power, Dreamwalkers that had been in the Dreamscape when it was sealed lost their minds and that which was wrought by a Daydreamer became coveted artifacts. With an unfilled void in their souls, the Order slowly turned on themselves until there was no one left…
Except for a few true believers.

I believe what you have drawn up thus far is splendid, Omega! I have an ani-manga character that I have essayed to make work about the circuit, but his atypical concept has still left me "homeless," so to speak, within the role-play world. Whether or not he would suit this prospective site, I am unsure. All the same, I think you should continue developing the present generalization!

Yay, thanks for the comments gaiz c:
Since it seems there is a bit of interest taken, I'll invest in making this a reality. Which is ironic considering the concept is dreaming, lol. Anyways.
As mentioned in the plot description, there are mystical humans that can enter the dream world and forge a weapon using their imagination, which is fueled by the Dreamscape. Dreamers take their weapons, or items, into the real world to do battle with Nightmares but I'll explain those in a bit. Periodically, Dreamers have to return to the Dreamscape to recharge their weapon/item. It's also there that they can upgrade them too.
Though Dreamers is a catch-all term for them, two other sub-types exist, which is Dreamwalker and Daydreamer. A Dreamwalker enters the Dreamscape unaided and has the most free reign. A regular Dreamer can only be within the dream world for a limited time lest they risk harm to their physical bodies. Dreamwalkers aren't restricted by that, as they touch the Dreamscape in a different way. However, their powers aren't as effective in the real world, their maximum potential being realized within the Dreamscape. Thus, they are more useful there.
Finally are the Daydreamers. They are reputed to be the strongest of all Dreamers, but also the most rare. A Daydreamer can create their weapon in the real world, using their imagination and innate power. They make the best warriors against evil as they never have to leave the battlefield as a Dreamer or Dreamwalker would have to. However, the drawback to their vast potential is their inability to enter the Dreamscape. Since their power is derived from their waking imagination, it is believed they cannot wield it in the sleeping world.
As said before, Dreamers battle Nightmares, gruesome monsters created by mankind's fears, that escape the Dreamscape. Just because they enter the real world doesn't mean they will be powerful. In fact, the veil between the two worlds prevents the stronger ones from breaking free but sometimes those with exceptional might do slip through. Also, if a spiritual medium is used, either through a ritual or otherwise, stronger Nightmares can be called into the real world and bypass the veil completely. Anyways, Nightmares can be almost anything; mythical creatures, scary fairy tales or something unknown. Unfortunately, bestial Nightmares aren't playable.
A Nightmare that gains sentience, or is created that way, is known as a Terror. Terrors are one of two sub-types that are playable. Their potential far exceeds a regular Nightmare and they are dangerous as they are capable of rational thought and reasoning, though usually keep with the primal instincts. A Terror can wield any kind of power they desire, though taking a dark or fearful scheme. They become stronger by causing destruction and absorbing the fear they wreak.
A Terror is also capable of infecting a Dreamer, usually by inducing great fear in them to lower their mental defenses and converting them to the Dark Side! A Dreamer is then known as a Dayfright. Their power is similar to when they were a Dreamer, a specialized weapon or item. They retain whatever ability they had prior, be it dreamwalking or daydreaming. However, if they were a regular Dreamer, they still have to return to the Dreamscape. To do so, they must find the point of origin where the Terror that made them had escaped, using that portal to enter and exit.
With that all said and done, all Dreamers require their weapon or item, haven't thought of a formal name for them, to use their powers/abilities/techniques/etc. Whatever they may be, it's up to the player to create something interesting. All Nightmares, with the exception of Dayfrights, don't need a specific object to use their abilities. Dayfrights do because they're still Dreamers in a way, but only more darker and evil. What kind powers/types/etc that acceptable or not will hammered out later once I get down to working on the site. What I didn't include, because this is a helluva lot of info, is the factions. There's three factions along with going unaligned if one so chooses. There's the Dreamers and their group. The Darkness, which is the evil entity behind Nightmares. A secret government that opposes the two and then neutral.
Another thing I forgot was playing normal humans, which every place needs that if ya just want casual no-fighting/no-death stuff. Then essentially sub-par discount Dreamers, humans that have a fraction of the mystic talent required. They aren't like full Dreamers but they can wield weapons/items that were forged by a Daydreamer who is no longer living, but with many drawbacks. Hopefully this will give you gaiz an insight to what will be playable and stuff c:

this sounds wonderful holy crap.
I'm assuming we get to pick what weapon/power/item and custom create them? If so, is there a ratio of how many of x type per person? All in all, the concept looks bloody beautiful, I really want to see this like /drools

this sounds wonderful holy crap. I'm assuming we get to pick what weapon/power/item and custom create them? If so, is there a ratio of how many of x type per person? All in all, the concept looks bloody beautiful, I really want to see this like /drools Yes. Like any other RPG-esque RP, the player decides on what they want for their character, subject to approval of course. As for numbers, I haven't really put much thought into it. It would either be a constant number or the character's level/rank would determine how many weapons/items they could possess. Each weapon/item is the vessel for the power one could wield, in regards to Dreamers. Then abilities/techniques are derived from that main power and are utilized in battle. An example of a weapon would be a sword that builds up kinetic energy as it is swung. Techniques derived from it involves empowering the weapon or launching kinetic projectiles. An example of an item would be a special bracelet that allows the Dreamer to manipulate fire. Thus an ability would be heat resistance and a technique would be a fireball. It'll work the same way for Nightmares, only they just have the main power and so on, no object needed to use it. their own darkness-infused existence manifests the powers. I hope this answered your questions.

Wow, I feel so special to be tagged since I tend not to do anything |DD. And from what I read, everything looks really awesome and cool. I dunno if you're going for a casual site or a stat-based site, though, and in my personal opinion SO THIS IS JUST ME I prefer casual over stat-based. If there's slight stats that determine only a few RP things (STR to show how strong so and so is) then that's awesome as well. But once you start going off toward MPH and exact feet and range then I'm like *slowly walks away* loool
Uuhh what else. Oh! I really like how some sites add a little somethin' somethin' to their systems. A lot of RP sites tend to be the same like "create character then plot and that's it" so when a site has something even more than that, I get really happy. It makes me feel like I accomplished something or contributed to something. MAYBE I SHOULD GIVE YOU AN EXAMPLE otherwise my message might not get through to anyone. xDD From the top of my head that Okami site, RESET, has a praise system-basically whenever you do something IC or OOC you get "praise" which helps you unlock other things on the site. There's even a list of things you can complete which is awesome because I love themes. *coughsorryinamedroppedcough*
I guess it can also tie in with the "give members a goal to reach". xDD Character ranks can be a goal + canon positions. But I think "titles" can be a really cool one too. Like if someone destroys a lot of monsters IC they can gain a title like "Destroyer" that's unique to them or if a character is a super klutz and after a certain amount of IC mess ups they gain the title "Dumbass". *shot*
The point is to make things fun for the members and SHOW THEM HOW FUN THE SITE IS.
Don't neglect da staff either, though. xDDD A good and fun motivator I used back at my old site was whenever a staff member graded something, they would post up an "accepted" sign that's unique to them. Whoever has the most accepted signs gets somethin' cool ICly or OOCly.
I can probably keep going because that's just how I am I like making sites okay. The plot sounds super cool but it's up to you to make it even more awesome~ I wish you luck and if you need anything, just give me a hollar. xD
P.S. I'm sorry for replying so late!!! I didn't even notice the notification until now. D| Happy Thanksgiving anyway? xDD

Sorry I took so long to reply to this. I know I cringe when I hear someone say this to me, but to be perfectly honest I was going to open a site like this with a very similar setting and concept. I didn't have time for it and couldn't really fit all that I wanted to do with it at the time, but overall I love the concept that you came up with for the dreams vs. nightmares theme. I also want to let you know that there was a magical girl/boy site based on this concept as well, so be sure to cross-check so that your site has different elements to what they have so that overall your site appeals in a different way.
