Just trying to see what the general consensus is here: if you joined a naruto board, would it be fandom-original character mix, or strictly original characters only?

As much as canons are fun, I prefer originals only.
Why? Fairly simple.
Because original characters are much, much more flexible.
Canons characters have a set limit, and well, to be very fair, a very strict growth rate. You may have ten million ideas for threads with the canon, but nine times out of ten, you don't actually develop from the thread itself, simply because ooc development of the character makes it no longer a canon. And people start to argue you don't roleplay the canon right anymore, and well it gets to be a mess.
That's discounting the fact that the entirety of the canon mess to begin with, the whole are you playing it right according to my perception of the canon. It's really difficult with canons because of that, and a decent canon based site needs to be very flexible whilst still weeding out the good ones too. It's taxing, it's harsh and usually people slap requirements on canons more so then actual oc's as well, such as activity must haves and what not.
That's just the tip of the iceberg but hopefully it provides some insight. I generally prefer oc only sites, but I can do canons. (Deidara, Konan, Anko are some of my favourites actually to rp) It's just there's generally a clustermess about the whole thing. xD
