main inspiration Video Game High School youtube seriesI'll edit the title and tag users, when kinda ready for other members to see the thread.
Here we go, quick summary to see who is interested. I can't stand not having at least a thread up, sorry, especially considering not ready at all... for people. - 2 Video Game Rival Schools {some Gamer Drink; undecided maybe pizza company?} Private/University unsure
- Advanced Technology - like holograms, VR anywhere, etc
- School President decided by Character/Member Vote
- Game Genres are ranked of importance: Social Gaming is last; First-person Shooter is First.
- Characters get powers/abilities/talents based on the games they play most of; Bioshock player could get electro bolt
- Original Animanga
- Proboards
- Site named... Game On!
or Game Over! or Game On! Game over! I really don't know.. any ideas? - Video Game genre cliques, you know you want to
So that's what I have right now... Anyone looking for anything in the site, or have ideas what to add in the site? Please tell me so I can think about it and expand on it. I'll probably expand the stuff by the end of this week and the next.

1st) I'm hella excited for this! I simply adore the premise of this site! 2nd) Game on! 3rd.) Questions: What determines a game genre's ranking?
When an unlisted game genre is added to the list, how will it's ranking be determined?
Will there be a limit as to how many people can have the same power?
- would this limit apply to those who gain similar powers through different games?
Will the game genre's ranking determine how weak/strong a power is?
-if not, what DOES determine how strong or weak a power is?
Will there be battles/tournaments between the schools?
What's the setting?
Is there any side effects and/or negative outcomes thanks to these awoken powers?
Why do these kids even have powers? ouo - are they achieved through becoming the 1# best player of that game?
Oh, and do you have any sore of lore behind this all?
sorry for the questions orz Im just hella excited and curious uwu

I am so ridiculously up for this! Also, Game On! sounds sweet.
I have a couple questions! First, why are the games ranked by importance in terms of genre? Like, what does that really add to the site/school? I feel like it's going to re-create the "casual gaming" debate, especially with first person shooters being ranked "most important" despite sharing the best-selling list with games like Tetris and Mariokart. At the same time, that might be fun for characters to bicker about.
Going off of what Star said, if there's going to be battles/tournaments in the school for FPS players, there should also be car/bike races. Because a racecar driver character sounds like a blast.
Also, I wouldn't be surprised if someone joined the site and their player is from a Pokemon game and they want to have a Pokemon team for their power/talent. How would you deal with stuff like that?
Another thing that might happen is people using FCs from their games. Taking the Pokemon example again, would you even allow someone to use Red as an FC for a character that mostly plays Pokemon? It seems like a bit of a cop-out, but that's up to you/administration to decide. Just food for thought!

I haven't exactly figured out anything for the lore yet, literally decided to do it 3 days ago and was too busy swamped with fireworks sales/inventory. So questions, let me answer best that I can. I'll probably think more on them and expand later on today, hopefully you guys will enjoy the responses. When an unlisted game genre is added to the list, how will it's ranking be determined?I was honestly thinking typing up the thread "oh I'll just look for most bought game genres and that'll be the order... lalalaladeeda..." But if we're adding uncommon genres, I'm thinking that maybe the members could vote? Though if members don't vote unless you beg them then it might slightly backfire? Will there be a limit as to how many people can have the same power? No, in all the rp communities I've been there has always been variety of powers and never been a big deal to me. Also since a lot of games don't really have "powers" you can actually create your own based off the game, example like GTA you steal cars, you can control car dashboards. Will the game genre's ranking determine how weak/strong a power is?No, I was actually basing the genre thing on school funding how its spent. In the youtube series that kinda gave the whole idea, they had it were the Social gamers had their own clique in an attic with ancient computers. I was hoping maybe to built on that, as well as how the school treats those players versus others. Just a way to cause conflict and more possible plots within the schools, like the nerds versus jocks. if not, what DOES determine how strong or weak a power is?I have at this current time absolutely no idea. As soon as I read the question I thought of school rankings and how higher school rank the stronger power, but I don't want fights between members about rankings and winning/losing. Maybe it could be a simple buy/earn an item to level up your powers? With level 5 maybe 10 being absolutely the highest, with the biggest kickback. Will there be battles/tournaments between the schools? That absolutely sounds like fun, yes very much so. What's the setting?Hmmm what's the biggest gaming city? I'll think on setting later, if its not original it'll be based on that... if it is original well, we can do whatever we want. Either way it'll be in a city with 2 schools, various jobs relating to how much gaming industry change the world, and places to hang out. Is there any side effects and/or negative outcomes thanks to these awoken powers?I would absolutely love the idea of there being negative effects, especially something similar to Bioshock. I'll think on this and expand it, but an idea starting to form in my head how this whole site going to be pulled off. Why do these kids even have powers? ouo - are they achieved through becoming the 1# best player of that game?Ooooh answering all your questions... I am thinking maybe Google human experiments with technology that brought on about abilities to somehow allow humans to adapt to their chosen environment. All experiments started with Social gaming, then quickly spread to military prowess. Otherwise... I'm thinking its all Virtual Reality that these powers exist, and maybe students who advanced in enough power level actually are able to bring it to real life? I honesty have no idea, if you have some ideas please hit me... All I know is you get 3 main powers to 1 game you're character addicted to choose wisely. Oh, and do you have any sore of lore behind this all?Nope, I haven't came up with anything yet. I felt too disorganized on what I felt about making the site, so I made this thread to get better organized. If you have ideas, hit me up I'm all Game.
I feel like it's going to re-create the "casual gaming" debate, especially with first person shooters being ranked "most important" despite sharing the best-selling list with games like Tetris and Mariokart. At the same time, that might be fun for characters to bicker about.
That's what I'm aiming for on the genre. Since I don't want members to bicker, maybe there could be a site vote or gossip column of the school's change of interest on which genre more important? maybe the News could butt in to spread the word around to families etc? Like example.. Chocolate one minute safe to eat, the next not so much... A flag is alright, suddenly flag is not alright... Oh gotta love social media. Going off of what Star said, if there's going to be battles/tournaments in the school for FPS players, there should also be car/bike races. Because a racecar driver character sounds like a blast. Yep, and yeah XD VROOOM VROOM!! "JIMMY YOU ARE GOING DOWN THIS SEASON!!" "Jully! Shut it!" Also, I wouldn't be surprised if someone joined the site and their player is from a Pokemon game and they want to have a Pokemon team for their power/talent. How would you deal with stuff like that? You're allowed to have hologram pets, so their pokemon companion could actually follow you around. I am thinking that maybe the character could draw on the power, or allow the hologram to take solid form, however they are always limited to only 3 powers unless through plot/event/item they somehow gain another. So you might be able to bring your pokemon to real life, but that pokemon can only get 3 powers of out 200. Also powers will be weak unless at max level... So let's say you have the power to solidify holograms, it only lasts long enough to hold/hug/love the creature or 1 simple attack. Then if we go all powers are actually just Freeform VR, then technically you can go all out, just make sure other rpier okay with it.
So I guess question brings up... Do we want the powers in Real life {smashimg through buildings}? Or just advanced technology with strong limitations {VR, Holograms, etc}? *scrolls up* Man, I talk too much... Anyone have any more ideas/questions, I am totally still unsure about the lore and probably won't be 100% sure till end of this week/next.

So like, Racing, FPS, Puzzler etc? But then with an overarching leaderboard. Make points available in the same way throughout each genre? Also, love the idea of having physical pokemon :']

Why not make one school all bout eSports - so MOBAs, FPS, RTS are the only genres they properly cater for and are always the top ranked, maybe a little bit for competitive MMO play - and one is the more "casual" school - Nintendo and single player games more or less. Stuck between the two are speedrunners, competitive pokemon players, and dudebros who want to be pro but the casual school has mountain dew, doritos and Madden.
So Team Razer vs Team Mountain Dew is what I'm saying.
I like the gossip column sort of thing. What if members could introduce rumours that change how the VR worlds work? Think like Persona 2 IS, where you spread rumour that will change NPCs and the enemies you run into - at the start of the game you have to go around spreading rumours that one of the NPCs is a mafia weapons dealers so you can buy weapons to beat up demons with. It changes her entire demeanor and place in the game.

I wasn't really going to rank the games themselves, there's too many and some are about tied up... just a big mess, I rather focus on the genre as a whole. Though if characters had rankings could do it by the genre they choose to focus on?

Then Mountain Dew be the poor casual fun players, and Monsters jerk offs who always place first with most hightech equipment? Hmm mascots could be "Dew Drops" and "Monsters"; hmm nah.. any ideas? If not, still a good way to have little news articles to start scenarios, glitches in games, etc... For future events and plotting *eyes flash of evil*

Thank you for answering my questions! <3
Suggestions/comments:
- Maybe the negative/side effect could be that they grow weaker in a sense. For example, when you spend all nighters playing a game, you forget to eat, bathe, and basically take care of yourself. You grow weak. So, depending on what power you use determines how much this side effect effects you.
There could be certain stages of this.
Stage one: A tad tired, slightly dirty, still playing strong, could go for a snack.
Stage two: Mildly tired, noticeably dirty, eyes growing bloodshot, getting quite hungry
stage three: insomnia level tired, filthy, starving, eyes fully bloodshot, growing thinner
Basically, these stages could represent the after effects of playing a game too long. Using your powers simply speeds up time in a sense. The strong powers you use/the amount of power you use determines what stage you're in.
- I like the whole google experiments thing rather than it all being VR.
- OKAY, SO THE WHOLE ESPORTS VS CASUAL GAMING IS THE BEST FUDGING THING EVER <333
